Vegas In April/May
A friend and I (both mid 20s) are planning a trip to vegas for the end of April/beginning of May. Any suggestions for midpriced hotels and shows? We were looking into Hard Rock, Luxor, New York New York. As far as shows we were looking at Cirque De Soleil and Siegrfried & Roy. Any other suggestions would be appreciated too! Thanks!

Mandalay Bay and Hard Rock are 2 good places for 20 somethings..ck out orbitz.com for prices...or get yorself on some hotel websites..they mail you specilas they are having and sometimes coupons....get all the info you can get on prices--hotel websites,800 #`s and ck travelocity.com or expedia.com for prices-then call the hotel and see if you can get a better price...ask for manager specials or any promos they might have..when you get into the airport and hotel look for booklets they have w/specials and coupons and ads...ck out lvol.com and cheapovegas.com---and have a blast.....

Hard Rock - great pool, great "scene". But the disadnantage is that it is off the strip - away from the action, ironically.
NYNY - hate the hotel rooms (noisy), and the pool is terrible.
Luxor - the best of the options that you listed. Pretty good location and nice casino.

The "scene" is certainly at MB and HR, however, for a first trip to Vegas, i personally wouldn't stay there (but then again i'm not into the whole "club" type scene).
MB is too far from the center strip, and HR isn't on the strip at all. Also, MB is not mid-price, as rates there are often $200+/nite.
I would look into Mirage, Treasure Island, Paris, Alladin, or Monte Carlo. More reasonable rates than the MB and all centrally located.
If you don't expect to "see" Vegas too much and are happy staying at your own hotel, then by all means consider MB and HR.

I'm not in my 20's anymore, but I don't understand why everyone gives Hard Rock a thumbs up. The two times I was there it was dead....plus it's well off the strip. Mandalay Bay was a more "happening" place, but it is way at the end of the strip. Luxor is way down there too and has lots of kids. I agree with the previous two above who recommended center strip (Paris, Bally's, Treasure Island, Mirage etc.) Have fun!

I don't know when Lenore visited the Hard Rock but I've never seen it "dead." Everytime that I've visited it's been packed with twentysomethings. Since I've never stayed there, I can't comment on the rooms, but the casino is pretty cool.
As previous posters indicated, the Mandalay Bay and Hard Rock seem to be the happening spots. Personally, I prefer MB over HR. The fact that they are both a little out of the way doesn't make much of a difference - you can certainly take a cab (or in the case of MB, a combination of walking and free trams) to get to the parts of the strip that you'll want to see. Plus, at night you'll probably want to be at your hotel (there's only so much walking you can do) and there are no better places to be for nightlife than at these two hotels (esp. MB).

Tom: you've probably been a weekend visitor to LV.
Hard Rock is a favorite of So. California weekend visitors to LV. During the week it can be pretty slow (like everyplace else...depending on convention business).
On weekends it is one of the more 'hip' places in town.
