Vegas Hotels - Where to Stay
My husband and I are going to Vegas the week of 10/27 for a delayed honeymoon. I'm driving him crazy because I can't decide on a hotel - we're looking at New York, Treasure Island or Luxor. All are in the same ballpark as far as price.
Thanks for your input!

I'm honestly not a big fan of any of your choices but I'll try and make this as constructive as possible so maybe it will help your decision.
I would never stay at NYNY because I just hate the place. You have to worry about hearing the roller coaster from your room, the NYC stuff is played and tacky, there are loads of timeshare salesman in the place, and it's location is neither here nor there, I don't want to pay $10 to enter the phony Coyote Ugly when the real one is free..
Luxor - something eerie about this place, I find the casino kinda dark, the inclinator thing can be a long wait. The rooms in the tower are much nicer than the pyramid but if your comparing prices I'm assuming it's a pyramid room. The good thing is it's close to Mandalay Bay. There was an indoor tunnel connecting the 2 but it was recently closed for MB construction on their new tower and shopping area. If I had to stay at Luxor, I woudl only use it for the bed and spend the rest of the time at Mandalay.
Treasure Island - wasn't a big fan of it when it was the kids pirate theme, now that they changed it to "TI" and got some "sirens", it might be better. I'm not a big fan of the end of strip location (vs. Bell or Caesars) but it's right across from Venetian. I consider the prospect to be similar to Luxor, but once I roll out of bed, I'd head straight for Venetian.
If you want to spend time at bars and dance clubs, stay at Luxor and hang out at Mandalay.
If you want to shop, stay at TI and shop at Venetian - they have an awsome indoor mall as does Caesars and Aladdin.
I'm not crazy about any of these choices given what's available in Vegas but none of them are dumps and being a delayed honeymoon, I'm sure you'd have a good time regardless.

I haven't visited Treasure Island in years so can't comment on it but NYNY and Luxor are both good midlevel choices. I've stayed at NYNY a couple of times (but not for a couple of years) and thought the rooms were average but acceptable. I like the casino and the theme - I don't think it is particularly tacky by Vegas standards. I wouldn't worry about the roller coaster - you can hear it a little but it doesn't run very late or very early and it never woke me from a late afternoon nap. I'm not a fan of the pool area, though. Fairly small and not asthetically pleasing. Some decent restaurants at NYNY, plus it is right across the street from MGM, which also has some good restaurants.
Although I haven't stayed at Luxor, I have seen the pool, gambled in the casino and gone to Ra (a nightclub). I thought it was pretty nice. I don't remember the casino being particularly dark, but it could be because I do remember that I liked it and I tend to like darker casinos (like Caesar's). The new ones are too bright, especially in the evening. Like Loki stated, Luxor is pretty convenient to Mandalay Bay, which is an excellent nighttime hotel (Lots of good restaurants, nightlife). Personally, I would probably choose the Luxor over NYNY.

I have to agree with Loki on almost all comments. Are these really your only choices? Have you checked the internet for specials at the Mirage, Venetian or Bellagio? Or a travel agent who specializes in Vegas packages? You might be a lot happier if you did.
On the other hand, if you've never been to Vegas before (and, therefore, have no expectations) you'll probably be perfectly content at one of your choices. If, however, you have been to Vegas before and have seen some of the nicer properties you may wish to look elsewhere.
I'm not trying to rain on your parade, I'm just not fond of any of the places you mentioned. And, oh my God, whatever you do, DON'T stay at the awful MGM.

I highly recommend the Venetian if it's within your budget. I was just there 3 weeks ago and we got a great rate. It was the biggest hotel room we have ever stayed in for the price. The only problem is location: it is kind of north on the strip from the newer hotels.
We also stayed at the Paris a few years ago and were very happy and that has a very central location.
I have not heard good things about the quality of the rooms at NYNY, but having grown up in NY I really enjoyed the atmosphere.

We enjoy the Mirage...should probably be withing the same range. Call and ask for the Player's Rate. You should have no problem.
If we were going back, I'd like to talk my husband into the Venetian or Mandalay Bay.

If you're staying during the weekdays, you can usually get a room at the Ventian for $79/night through Priceline. If you're interested, check out Biddingfortravel.com. That's where you can see what the recent winning bids were through priceline.

Just back - Treasure Island Pirate ship display is currently being remodelled, so it's a bit of a mess at the moment.
The Autumn floral display in the conservatory of the Bellagio is romantic and glorious.
We stayed at Barbary Coast, for less than $50 per night, trough "travelworm" and I could watch the Bellagio fountains from my window.

The indoor tunnel between Luxor and Mandalay Bay is indeed open; just a few shops now with more opening in the next few months. You can actually go all the way from Excalibur to Mandalay Bay inside. There is also a monorail that runs between the three.
Mandalay Bay is currently running a $99 room rate on their web site with a bunch of two for ones and a $35 suite upgrade.

Here's my critiques of the places I've stayed this year:
Paris...nice room and huge bathroom..windows overlooking Bellagio fountains and "Eiffel tower". Great location as it is walking distance to all the "showcase" casinos and shopping...food is decent (pastries and breads are fantastic) and I just tried to ignore the dreaded mimes! Sacre bleu! Easy access to Bally's etc since they are connected.
Orleans: great value for the price; good for video poker playing..shuttle to strip every 15 minutes.
Gold Coast: renovated rooms I think less cluttered than Orleans; close to Palms and Rio; large but really smoky casino. Also since part of Orleans/Barbary Coast..same shuttle to strip.
Flamingo: rooms are a little worn but have floor to ceiling windows..ours overlooked the pool which was nice and relaxing. Food was not great and either was casino.
Just my 2 cents!
