Vegas Hotels
I will be traveling to Vegas in April with my wife. It will be the first time either one of us has been there. I have found simular rates for Bally's and Treasure Island and rates even a bit cheaper at the Flamingo. Neither one of us are big gamblers, and we would just like to find someplace with a nice room, good location, good restaurants and without many kids. Any comparisons on these three?

I was just out there and stayed at Mandalay Bay. It is not the best location as it is way down the strip but it is a beautiful hotel and the nicest rooms of the few that I have stayed in. I enjoyed being "away" from all the glitz but able to get to it when we wanted to. There were very few kids here - at least when we were there.

I've stayed at both Bally's and Treasure Island. TI is newer and will probably have more kids because of the pirate theme. Bally's is better located and has large rooms but is older. I would pick Bally's, or better yet Paris, which is only a little more but much nicer and connected to Bally's.

I just returned from a stay at Flamingo (it is no longer a Hilton, by the way). What a dump! The hotel is in SERIOUS need of an upgrade and I would strongly recommend people stay away until the hotel gets refurbished. You will most certainly regret staying there!

I stayed at the Flamingo last April. They didn't have my reserved room available, so they upgraded me to a suite. It was nice, overlooking ceasars palace. 59/night and 99 on weekends if I remember correctly. The Flamingo wasn't the nicest hotel on the strip, but I thought it was worth it. They have a nice pool and the Casino was good. I didn't have any complaints & I'd stay there again.

The general atmosphere is rundown. The elevators are incredibly beat up--filled with stains and graffiti. The two rooms I had (I had to change rooms because I was so grossed out by the first one) were an unprecedented assortment of stains, marks on the wall, dirty linen, soiled carpet, worn bedding and broken soda and ice machines. Frankly, I was shocked. I've stayed at the Flamingo for 20 years and this is the first time I've seen it in this condition. It was absolutely terrible, and I want to warn people that there's a reason you're paying $45 a night for a hotel that, until recently, commanded $80-$100 a night. I guess management is just moving as many bodies through as possible before the inevitable renovation. I'd STRONGLY encourage you to stay away for now.
