Vegas Hotel Choice
The wife and I are running the Vegas marathon on 12/10. The run starts outside of the Mandalay Bay , which is booked full, so we need a place in that area. NYNY, MGM, or Luxor? Is this a "6 in one a half dozen in the other" type of choice w/ these 3 properties??
We're mid 30's, no kids, looking to spend no more than $150 p/night. Thanks!!

Hi woodrob, IMHO, I think you are right that it's 6 of one, half dozen of another. Here's one map:

Here's another map that I like because it shows the distance:

They are pretty close. I think if you walk it from the farthest of your choices, it will simply serve as a half mile warm up.
More importantly, as a fellow marathoner: Can you please please please post a report here when you are done? I thought the marathon was usually in February. AND, my friends who have run it said it wasn't anywhere near the hotels--it was out in the middle of nowhere. So I'm guessing that the marathon has been revamped so that the runners can enjoy the sights & the strip, instead of running in a desert sandstorm! I'd love to run it one of these days.
Of course, 12/10 is the same day as the Honolulu Marathon....

Distances are deceptive on maps of the Las Vegas Strip--they are always MUCH farther than they appear.
Luxor is closest to Mandalay Bay. I've never stayed there, but those who have report it is ok but they are not blown away.
Runners will no doubt be staying at hotels all over town. Of the hotels you mention, MGM is the best.

What did you decide? Luxor is closest to Mandalay Bay, and this appeared in today's NY Times:
Bargain-hunters could do worse than Luxor (3900 Las Vegas Boulevard South, 888-777-0188; www.luxor.com). It’s the pyramid-shaped, Egyptian-themed hotel with an adjacent remodeled tower. It has inclinators, not elevators, that tilt as they go up and down. That can be cool, but slightly dizzying. Compared with the more ostentatious hotels that have come along since it opened in 1993, it seems almost retro. The 4,408 rooms are $80 to $650.
