Vegas-1st time: MB or Bellagio?

Going to Vegas for my 40th and 1st time. We have narrowed it down between the Bellagio and Mandalay Bay....its too hard to pick which one! Which one do you prefer over the other and why? What pool is better? Any other tips such as websites, etc. would be most helpful and truly appreciated!

check out cheapovegas.com for excellent reviews of even these high end hotels.

Bellagio and Mandalay Bay are both beautiful but appeal to different types of people. B. is more sedate, controlled and appeals to mature people. MB appeals to a younger crowded with hip bars and clubs, but you may get tired of these folk running through the halls. MB pool is considered somewhat better with a wavepool and younger crowd.

I would take Bellagio if for no other reason-location. We have stayed at the Mandalay - nice place -real neat pool. But when it's late at night, and you are at Center strip - ready to sleep-it's a LONG ways back to Mandalay -even with the trams!! Have fun!

Bellagio. The location is great and it is a beautiful, beautiful hotel. The fountains are incredible. You will not regret staying here.

Bellagio is elegant/upscale, especially the pools and restaurants.

Manadalay is relatively luxurious but more casual feeling and caters to a bit of a younger (late 20's to 30's and up) crowd, with beach and pool complex, younger/trendier restaurants and bars.

I'd recommend staying at the one which best fits your tastes/personality. I doubt you'll be disappointed either way.

I'm going to Las Vegas for the first time with my new hunkfriend Bruno.
We want to enjoy all that LV has to offer. Only the best for us. We're thpecial.
Should we stay at Bellagio or Four Seasons?
Which one will best do my nails and wax my eyebrows and back? Which one has the cutest bellmen?

I spent my 40th at Mandalay Bay. I guess the Bellagio was a little too stuffy. The rooms were large and the pool areas were awesome. There are much more trendier restaurants and clubs in MB than in Bellagio. The Bellagio is also more expensive and since we didn't spend too much time in the hotel, the money was well spent on great dinners, shows and shopping for myself and my wife. We saw Mystere(at Treasure Island), a must(I had already seen it once, but my wife hadn't). We saw a concert at the HOB in MB and dined and clubbed at RumJungle and saw many of the sights and went to other restaurants along the strip. If you can afford either MB or Bellagio, paying for a cab when somewhere else on the strip is no problem to get you back to MB. I also felt that the casino was a little less crowded becasue of the placement on the strip. They also have outdoor concerts in the summer and a variety of other shows in HOB and their convention center. Have a great birthday, mine was memorable and my wife enjoyed it as well. If you like the sedate and more mature crowd then Bellagio would be the place for you. No matter what make sure you visit Bellagio as the hotel is beautiful and the glass above the check in area by Chihuly is agreat art piece. It is most beautiful and you will want to purchase some of his art.

WITHOUT HESITATION -- GO FOR THE BELLAGIO! The location just can't be beat. It's right smack in the middle of all the action -- a perfect location. Mandalay is a beautiful hotel without a doubt, but it's on the end of the strip and you have to walk quite a ways to get to everything else. Bellagio is the most gorgeous hotel and has the best pools! 6 of them! You can find the one that suits you best...ie. one in the sun, one out of the sun, one that has a waterfall, etc. So relaxing. And the service is impeccable. Try going on their website -- bellagiolasvegas.com. You can often catch a good special rate there. You'll love it! Have fun!

If one can afford Bellagio, can't one afford a cab? I find the fact that a hotel is down the strip should not deter one from any hotel. I will always pick MB because I don't spend so much time in my room, but I do go places and the MB has many attractions, concerts, etc.... This is why I prefer it.

One can afford the Bellagio and one does not want to have to take a cab every time one leaves the hotel, time sometimes is important also..and waiting for cabs is a waste of time when one can walk out of the Bellagio and BE THERE.

Why do people equate class and richness with stuffy and sedate?
My husband and I are in our 30's, we enjoyed our stay at the Bellagio so much! We had a gorgeous room on the 25th floor, the pools are beautiful, all 5 of them..the service is outstanding. We spent one afternoon in the little Art Gallery, had cappucino at the cafe by the pools. The restaurants are all great. And the casino is the prettiest and least smokey of all the strip hotels.
Go to the Bellagio, or you will visit and really wish you had stayed there instead of MB.
Good luck!!

Everything's relative, Nic.
"Las Vegas" and "Classy" are almost mutually exclusive terms. But Bellagio sure does bring the two pretty close together. Not what I'd call 'stuffy' though.

first of all, happy 40th! both these properties are beautiful! i have been to these two properties and here's what i think.....

MANDALAY BAY is at the south end of the strip, which means, you'll have an amazing view in the evening from your room! make sure you get a strip view room. mandalay is right next to the luxor, which has the tram, to get around places, which is also free by the way. it doesn't go too far though. BUT, you can always just hop on a bus, which is about $2.50, to go down the strip. don't remember what the service hours are though. you wanna walk? go right ahead, but make sure you wear very comfy shoes. lots to see & very long walk. POOL -> excellent pool! it's the closest thing you'll get to a "beach" in las vegas. it's got sand & a large wave pool. also has lazy river. BUT, getting a good spot is the hard part. if you want peace & quiet, this isn't really recommended. lots of kids. rooms....are alright. typical las vegas hotel room. could be better.

BELLAGIO is a beautiful hotel! great location! pretty much centrally located to everything. POOL - very nice & relaxing, compared to the mandalay. what they're known for is the fountain show. WOW!! very beautiful! take lots of pictures! yeah, it's water, but it's amazing how they get the water to shoot with the music. what's also really nice about that is that if you're in your room, you can listen to the music on your television....ooooh...aahh.

one thing though....if you're willing to go all out, i highly recommend the four seasons. even though it's at the mandalay, it's a very very very different atmosphere. it was the first & only 5 diamond hotel. they too now have bellagio. none gaming hotel, so it's very quiet. nice change. sorry to babble, but this brings back great memories! can't wait to go back in december!
