Vandalized road signs--funny but dangerous!

Here are some road signs we've seen so far--wish I took photos so I could upload them.

No Farting (changed from original: No Parking)

Open Bitch (changed from Open Ditch)

Speed Limit 80 MPH (changed from 30 MPH)

Not a road sign but a billboard:

WARNING:. May be offensive to Brittany Spears' fans.

When she first hit the scene and seemed quite innocent and sweet, billboards were posted all over Louisiana stating that Brittany Spears was the "Pride of Louisiana." They're all gone now - had to removed. After her true nature came out, someone painted over all the P's making her the "ride of Louisiana."

There used to be a route 69 in Ohio, but during the 1960's they had to change the number as every college kid in Ohio had stolen a road sign to hang in his dorm room.

BayouGal, that's soooooo funny.

Around here, it's popular to decorate Stop signs by applying a political candidate's bumper sticker right under the word Stop. IIRC, this started around the time of the last presidential campaign.

Years ago, my mother snapped a photo of a road sign. The sign read "Soft Shoulders" and someone had added, "Firm thighs". Wish I knew where the pic is!

When I was a teenager, many many moons ago, we thought the height of humor was to drive about 40 miles to the village of Union, Kentucky and change the sign to read Onion. Oh well, it kept us entertained...

We saw quite a few while in St. John USVI, especially around Coral Bay area. And of course, I can't think of one now. Maybe someone else remembers?

Instead of "Men Working," all the construction zones around me now post politically correct signs warning of WORKERS. I've had to resist the urge to get my can of spray paint and add of the world unite, you have nothing to lose..."

Visit www.signspotting.com or see if your local bookstore has the "Signspotting" book.

On Storrow Dr Westbound on your way to Fenway Park, there was a sign that read "Reverse Curve". It was famously changed one night to read "Reverse the Curse".

I nearly drove off the road when I saw it for the first time I laughed so hard. For 2 years or more the DPW tried to paint it out but it would keep reappearing. Finally they just took the sign down and I believe its now in the New England Sports Museum. Replicas of it are on sale at souvenier stands at Fenway.

With many thanks to kberbones [ thanks!] from the Caribbean board....who apparently has a better memory than I do!

If you are familiar at all with St. John, the roads are less than stellar...with lots of curves and dips. These were all modifications of DIP signs:

clam DIP
DIPsy
DIPity do da
serenDIPity

and the two I finally remembered after seeing these...

DIPSH*T [but with ALL of the letters].
DIPwad

Too funny! They became like Burma Road signs...we kept looking for the next one.

Bennie: What the heck IS a reverse curve? That sign would do me no good even unaltered!

I am ashamed to admit I giggle when someone has stuck a red reflector sticker on the nose of the Deer on the Deer Crossing signs to mkae him look like Rudolph.

The reverse curve on Storrow drive is just like driving the letter "S", starting at the bottom. Just when you think you're done with the curve, it goes the other way.

The roadway was built on the banks of rhe Charles River and had to accommodate the narrow strip between the riverbank and the adjacent Beacon Hill townhouses.

Not only dangerous, but expensive tax dollars (that's your money as well as mine).
DH says he spends about $30,000/yr. replacing vandalized signs in our little county alone.
Can you imagine what that comes to in the whole US - especially when you figure in the city & state signage?

On way up to Tahoe, the sign "Chains Required"...someone added "Whips Optional"

Re: Debi, re: St John roadsigns,
last part of my TR for St John listed some of my fav road signs there (not vandalized, just fun--eg the "Thou Shalt Stop" mentioned above by Sweetsailing. I liked how they don't just say "No Parking" but go into detail to explain the reason for the rule(eg at Mongoose Jct).

OSB, good point. Thanks for that reality check.

A long time ago when I was a kid in Hawaii, the state put up signs by road construction projects that said, "Your Highway Taxes at Work." Someone always changed them to, "Your High Taxes at Work."
