Vancouver Hotels and Sightseeing
My two friends and I are going to Vancouver in late August-early September for 6 nites. We have two reservations,
one at the Quality Hotel downtown and the other at the Granville Island Hotel. Which one is better? We are leaning
towards Granville Island, we don't mind that it is not in downtown and it sounds quaint. We plan to hit Victoria and
Wistler, where else should we go? And how about nite life?

Althogh I don't live in Vancouver, I have spent much time time there like yourselves, as a tourist. I am familiar with both these hotels, but think you would enjoy some of the bed and breakfast's in Vancouver. I have found them much more conveniently located and coupled with the excellent accomodations, you will meet some travellers with like interests. If you let me know what types of things you want to do when you are there ie. hiking, sightseeing, boating, whale watching, etc. I can help you out. You have chosen a very busy time (INDY Car Race at the tail end of August) so you may want to do the Island portion of the trip first. Please email me if you want further info.

Don't know about any hotels around but Granville Island is great. I don't know how old you are, but if you're under 35 or so I would skip Victoria and spend a couple nights at Whistler. Tons of night life and lots to do during the day. Stay right in the village and you can bar hop all night long. I agree with the previous message about downtown Vanc during Indy. It's scary. You might be better off on Granville Island. I don't know the exact dates of Indy or which parts of Vanc. it affects most but if you want more info e-mail me and I'll try to find out what I can. Enjoy your visit.

I live in Vancouver & while I don't know the quality of the hotels mentioned, I do know that Granville Island is as close to downtown as you can get without being downtown! When you're in town make sure you pick up a copy of the weekly paper. Its "The Georgia Straight" and its devoted to entertainment, food reviews, theatre etc. The hotel on G Island might even have a partial view of the Indy race (maybe!)
