Vail dining

Hi, friends will be vacationing in Vail this winter, I would like to give them a gift certificate to a great restaurant, any suggestions? Love Mexican, no white linen cloths. Thanks!

Hi.... a "local" writting here...
The hot spot for us locals for Mexican food here in the Vail area is a family owned business in the town of Edwards (about 15 minutes from Vail) it is called Fiesta's 970-926-2121
The most popular mexican restaurant for tourists IN Vail Village is Los Amigo's 970-476-5847. If you'd like somethinng a bit more upscale, hip but not fancy, the new "hot spot" in town is La Bottega 476-0280 And one of my personal "low key" favorites Blu's 476-3113.

Don't mean to tag on to this posting but since there is a Vail local on here, I thought I would ask.

I remember reading about a restaurant that near in Colorado mountains (I thought it might be near Vail) that guests would snowshoe or cross-country ski to. It was in an outdoor tent and the chefs would prepare everything on a grill there. I wish I kept the article I saw it in. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

I don't know if it still exists, but I went to a place called Beanos Cabin on a trip to Beaver Creek - they pick up up on a snow cat at night and take you all the way a mountain to the restaurant - which was incredible! The trip down was sooo cold that we all bundled up under a huge tarp - but it was very fun and a great experience!

Yes, I have been to Beanos and it is incredible. However, Beanos is in a cabin and this other restaurant I was trying to find out about is in a tent. All the supplies are brought in by people on showshoes, cross-country skis and snowmobiles.

Thanks though!

Sorry to tag onto this also, but how expensive is Beanos? Do they serve in summer also? Allow children? Thanks.

Is anyone familar with a restaurant that serves a great fondue? Also, is LaBottega an Italian restaurant? There used to be a cute place called Bart and Yettis, is it still there? thanks

Not sure about the details, but here's a link where you can contact them directly:

If anyone knows about that other restaurant in Vail, please let me know.

Hi, I live in Vail and the restaurant that you are looking for that you have to snowshoe into is called the Tennessee Pass Cookhouse. Very unique experience and great food! The nicest thing about living here is the fabulous restaurants and variety. You really can't go wrong with any restaurant you choose. Just depends on your taste.

If you're not white linen people, I have three recommendations:

1. Gashouse(in Edwards just west of Beaver Creek). Without a doubt the best burger in the State of Colorado. Great food, nice people, fun bar.

2. Minturn Country Club (don't be deceived by the name--it's not a country club but a totally casual place where you grill your own steak on these huge indoor grills. Too much fun.

3. Hubcap Brewery--great handcrafted beers right in Vail village with solid microbrew style food.

Beano's is excellent--there's nothing better than a nice morning of hard skiing, say Birds of Prey at Beaver Creek, into a tasty Beano's lunch and then cruiser runs the rest of the day.

Have fun!

Hey I've been to the Minturn Country Club about 5 years ago!! It is GREAT!! We picked out our steaks and then our vegetables and grilled everything on this huge grill in the middle. Quality beef, and fun servers. Our group had a ball!!

Glad to hear that it's still in business.
