Vacation tips for Maine & Nova Scotia

I know it is late to start planning, but we are going to Maine for 2 weeks and REALLY need advice!
We will land in Portland and head to Kennebuncport,Boothbay Harbor, Milinocet, Bar Harbor, Nova Scotia... Does this sound good? How long in each place? Any suggestions for lodging, restaurants and things to "MUST SEE". Your help is appreciated.

Highly recommend that you get yourself a copy of "Maine, An Explorer's Guide". Everything you need to know about visiting Maine. Read it on the plane and in the car. You probably won't need reservations anywhere this time of year (be advised though that many places, accomodations and restaurants and shops, are open only seasonally and the season doesn't really get underway until Memorial Day). My recommendation would be to drive as far south from Portland as you plan to go (highly recommend the Beachmere Inn in Ogunquit). Then, move north as the spirit moves you. The coast of Maine is spectacular, and nearly every town along the way is worth a visit and/or overnight stay. The ferry going to Nova Scotia is called the Prince of Fundy. They have a website. In the alternative, you could spend a few days in Portland, stop in Kennebunkport and Ogunquit on your way to Portsmouth, NH. Spend a few days there, and a few in Salem, MA and Newburyport, MA (these are all year round destinations). Visit Rockport and Gloucester and Marblehead on the coast of MA.

We had a beautiful trip in Canada last year,
particularly enjoyed Quebec City. I would urge
you to consider it. We'd also recommend the
Cabot peninsula and Fort Louisberg in N.S.
Try to save a little time for sailing off the
coast in ME.

Don't miss Peggy's Cove at Ogunquit. Walk on the Marginal Way from there (ask someone in a shop if you can't find it) to see the ocean crashing against the rocky coast. If you stay there overnite, Kennebunkport can be seen with a very short drive. Try to stop at a lobster pond at Peggys Cove and have a lobster and some steamers. Its more fun in a casual place than in a fancy restaurant; lobsters & clams are messy to eat but wonderful! Its an easy drive up from Portland which is just another city.

Sounds pretty good. Note that the ferry from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia is not the Prince of Fundy, believe its the Bluenose.

Glad to see that your going to Millinocket. The central area of Maine is often overlooked by people that just stay on the coast. (Mind you I grew up in York and Kittery, Maine and appreciate the coast as well but spent many a summer on Schoodic Lake just south of Millinocket and can appreciate that beauty as well, the Kathadin area is wild and beautiful.)

Note on Nova Scotia, if you have time visit the northern island, Cape Breton island and ride the Cabot Trail and see Ft. Louisbourg.

Have fun!

Hope you have a great time.
