Vacation Advice Wanted
My husband and I take an anniversary trip each year. We have traveled to many wonderful places but never the New England states. I understand that Fall is the best time but we are not retired yet so must take this trip in June. We would like to spend about a week in a resort/hotel/cottage in a quiet quaint preferable seaside town where we can take walks in the evening and go into the quaint town or fishing/boat area. We really would like to rent a small house/cottage on the water so we can sit out on the porch and relax for a week. We do not care much for activities, just natural beauty and quaint atmosphere. I have read about places such as this in novels, but never know if they truly exist. Can anyone help recommend such a tranquil place. TWU

June is a great time to visit Maine. It will be too cold for swimming but the rates can be cheaper. Camden is probably one of the most active and pretty coastal towns which would also have a variety of restaurants. But, for a more tranquil atmosphere, look for something on the Blue Hill Peninsula, it's just before you get to Mt Desert/Acadia (Bar Harbor) area. The reason why I find June in that area particularly appealing is because there are masses of lupines blooming. One town has a Lupine Festival and provides a map to the best viewing areas.

I would vote for Martha's Vinyard, Nantucket, or the lower Cape, anywhere from Chatham to Provincetown.
