Utah Parks or Maine Coast in July?

We are planning a 10-day trip in late July. Trying to decide between Utah (Zion, Bryce, etc) and Maine (Acadia Nat. Park, etc.). Is it too hot to hike for most of the day in July in Utah? We love beautiful scenery and hiking. We'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Hi x,

Hot is a realive term. Where do you live? How much hiking do you do on a regular basis?

Southern Utah will be 90 - 100 degrees at the end of July. Low humidity. Bryce Canyon is at 8,000 ft., days would be around low 80's at the top of the canyon, hotter if you hike down. End of July usually starts the summer "monsoon" season with afternoon thunderstorms.

Thanks for the reply/topping. We live in the Washington DC area. We are in good shape, like 1-3 hour walks/hikes. We were wondering how many hours of the day would be too hot to walk (95 degres plus) in late July. If it only gets that hot in mid-late afternoon, we would be ok. Thanks!

Zion is hot any way you rationalize it!
Bryce, being about 4,000 feet higher is cooler by a critical amount.

The other parks like Arches and Canyonlands are hot as well.

However, people go there!!

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is fairly tolerable because temperatures on the rim drop at night. During the day in the direct sun, things get a might warm. Of course down in the canyon is beastly hot.
