Back to the original topic of this post guys. Play nice!

Sarah, I will certainly take your suggestion and try out my pack before I leave. Was the one you bought (and leaked) a Splash Caddy?

May, holy cow, can you believe this? LOL! When you're on a cruise, they give youa sign card which you have to have to get back on the boat. For this reason, I always wear my Splash Caddy when I snorkel! DUH. Wouldn't that be horrible to lose with all the safety stuff the cruise lines are doing. My Splash Caddy did not leak, just make sure you seal the bags well.

thanks for askin' May, but i just confirmed that i am duh...the village idiot. i hadn't thought to look at the product on REI's site...better instructions there than anything that came with the product. as others here have said, it's their SealLine waterproof fanny pack.

No May but I bought it at the the suggestion of a dive instructor in NYC. For all I know the person who wore it that day did not close it properly although they insist they closed it properly. We just do not take any more chances after that.

My Splash Caddy finally arrived today! It's basically just a nylon bag with a zipper and inside, it has two ziplock lookalike bags. The outside nylon bag itself is not really waterproof. In fact, it has two holes in the back I guess for ventilation. For what, I don't know. But the ziplock like bag itself is what keeps the items dry. I feel kind of cheated because I thought the whole bag was waterproof. I will test it out tonight and report it's efficiency tomorrow. =)

Did you get the splash Caddy junior or the larger one. I have a larger fanny pack and I just hate it. Although if you say this just seems like a regular zip lock I might as well just pop in my own.

I've tested my Splash Caddy "Junior" (7x6") and it worked fine. No leaks (yet). I don't know how it will be in the ocean.

Just as I suspected it, it's the ziplock lookalike bag that is waterproof, not the whole bag itself. Water will slide off the nylon but of course, it will also somewhat penetrate through the fabric. Like I also said in my last post, it has 2 holes in the back of the bag which I think defeats the purpose. But who knows why that's there?

Now when I say "ziplock lookalike bag", I don't mean that it really comes with a ZipLock brand bag you get from supermarkets. The makers themselves claim that there's a 3 time seal on their ziplock bags that are patented to be waterproof up to 200 ft. Now how true is that, I don't know, and I probably will ever know. I don't know if its such a good idea to put in your own ziplock bag in there.

I'm finally leaving 4 more days, yea!!! When I get back, I will write a report on how the bag worked out and of course, about the trip. Thank you all for helping out with this post as well as other posts I was on. For all of you who will be going soon, have a great trip.
