US Open Hotel

I will be going to the US Open (golf) in mid June. It is in Bethpage, N.Y. Can anyone
recommend a hotel in this area. I prefer
an inn or resort type accomodation but have
not found anything other than the national
chains.I would be able to drive to the course
each day, maybe up to 20 - 30 miles.

Thanks for any help.

Mgeorge, you poor person, having to top your own thread!

Long Island isn't exactly tourist central. Try as I am, I can't think of anything other than major chains around the Bethpage area. NYC (to the west) would be too far away to stay, as would the Hamptons (to the east). There's a nice town that fits your up to 20-30 drive option, and that would be Port Jefferson, on the water on the north shore of Long Island, and you might try their Chamber of Commerce or search the web to find specific places to stay.

Hopefully some Long Islanders will come out of the woodwork with some good ideas for you.

Sad, but you would get more responses if you titled your question "U.S. Open Hotel for me and my monkey".

Check out the Garden City Hotel, in Garden City of course, considered the best on Long Island. Not sure of your budget, but it is priced like Manhattan, i.e. not inexpensive. It's about a 20 minute drive from Bethpage.

Great idea. Forgot about the GCH.
