US hotel rates quoted per room or per person?

can you help? I checked expedia.com and a hotel will say for example $65.00 for a double room - now is that per person or is that the price for the room? I will be traveling alone so I just pay $65.00 or would there be a single supplement? Yes I know this is probably really stupid question so I apologise in advance

The rate is for the room for up to 2 people. Some charge extra for people over 2 if, for instance the room would sleep 4 people.

Hope that helps.

It should be per room for two people and then if you have an extra child or person there should be an extra charge, but minimal. I'm thinking you are coming from the UK and it's a very different system here. Good luck.

Right, per room for a double -- but there are almost invariably add-on taxes that can range up to 14%, depending on the destination.

If we can ask what "en suite" means on the Europe site, don't feel bad about asking your question here.

As the other posters have said, you're almost always quoted the room rate. But tax on hotel rooms is very high, so allow for it. The tax varies by state and sometimes city.

Hester, when you search expedia you type in how many people are travelling before you see the prices, I beleive. So the price you see if per room. There are no hidden fees except taxes and you will see the total before you finalize the transaction.

Just be careful if you use "back" button on your computer, it may change your dates.

Some hotels may charge electricity fees upon arrival - it's in addition to Expedia's. This happened to us in Vegas - $3 a night if I remember correctly.

En Suite refers to a bathroom within a bedroom, or hotel room. So, if in a house, you have a master bedroom with it's own bathroom, that is also called an En Suite
