US/Canada
Hi everyone, my wife and I are traveling from Florida to Canada and we are wondering if driving through Atlanta is as big a deal as people are saying ? Mostly everyone are saying to stay away from driving through Atlanta all together. One route we're looking at is 75 to Tifton Georgia and cutting over to Montgomery Alabama on US Hwy 82 to pick up Hwy 65 to Nashville. Has anyone travelled that route or has experience on US Hwy 82 between Tifton and Montgomery or can suggest a better route ? Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks so much,
Peteh

I really don't think driving through Atlanta is THAT big a deal. HOWever. Going to Montgomery would allow you to see a wonderful civil rights monument designed by Maya Lin and the Southern Poverty Law Center. I consider it to be one of the most moving and effective tributes to a movement. If you have time to do sightseeing, consider this as an opportunity

Driving through any city at rush hour can be a pain. If you can plan to avoid that, stopping for dinner to avoid the evening commute, stopping for the night beyond the city to avoid the morning rush, your problems will be reduced.

From all of peninsular Florida as far west as Tallahassee the shortest way to Toronto is via South Carolina not Atlanta. From Panama City to Pensacola the fastest way to Toronto is via Alabama. The only sliver of Florida that would route via Atlanta is around Blountstown. Anyone who glanced at a map would see this to be the case.

If you’re routing through Nashville it doesn’t sound like you are going to Toronto. If that is the case I wouldn’t avoid Atlanta unless at rush hour and make sure you have your GPS going. If it is to Toronto we recently drove Anna Maria Island to the Buffalo area that you would go through to get to Toronto. Routes 75 to 301 to 95 to 26 to 19 to 79 to 90 about 20 hours.

missed that part of the original question that asked for the shortest way to Toronto. mea culpa. Thank you for clarifying.
You missed it 'cause it isn't there. Clarifying it isn't. Adding it is.
