Urgently Need Help for NYC East Side
I just found out that I'm going into the city tonight with some friends for a premiere of Hope & Faith that my friend cowrote. It starts at 11:00, but a few of us are planning on going in a little bit earlier. We're going to be around East 60-70th St. but unfortunately I don't know exactly where the place is. Does anyone have any suggestions for a bar that has good bar food so we can get something to eat and drink before hand??
I wish I can give more info but I don't have it. Just as long as we're on the East side, we really don't mind walking about 10-15 blocks.

* Brother Jimmy's features delicious bar-be-que and a rowdy atmosphere, 2nd Ave between 77th & 78th.
* For one of the best burger & bar scenes in NYC, there's always J.G. Melon, Third Ave at 74th Street (cash only).
* O'Flanagan's has good bar food and a welcoming atmosphere, First Ave near 65th Street.
* Baker Street is where many scenes in the Tom Cruise movie "Cocktail" were filmed, First Ave at 63rd.

We're really up for anything with the atmosphere. We obviously want to be able to get a seat at the bar, so we can eat. Nothing too packed, so I guess Brother Jimmy's would be out. I have a funny feeling I've been there before. Do they have a drink we're they put it in a fishbowl and everybody drinks out of it with straws?? I may be going crazy.

Yep, Lucienne, that's the place! I like Brother Jimmy's for food and drinks, but it can be rather raucous.
How about Divine Bar at 52nd (or is it 51st?) between 3rd and 2nd Aves (closer to 2nd)? They have lots of wines by the glass and interesting beers. They serve tapas-style munchies. Nice atmosphere, good food.
Or you might try Zarela's on 2nd between 51 and 50. It's a delicious Mexican restaurant and they have wonderful margs. Just be careful -- they are lethal!

Lisettemac: I've been to Zarela's before and you're right about the Margarita's. The tapas place sounds interesting. I'm going to check that out.
O'Flanagans sounds like a good idea, too. Thanks for all the advice from everyone. I appreciate it.

My rec. is Guastavino's -- 409 East 59th. It's been a while since I've been there but last time it was pretty fun and a fairly nice scene. Or have drinks and some great food at the bar at BLT Steak 106 East 57th. Very good food, good atmosphere.
