The trees in the Boston area are just starting to change and the weather has tuned cooler. The TV news is saying that northern New England had great color this year. For a foliage trip, maybe head to the White Mountains. Lodging anyplace with color may be a problem without longstanding reservations, as this is a popular time of year.

<Need simple itinerary for best places. Day 1 etc.>
Well, I guess you should have researched one, then.
<Places to stay. >
Do you have any reservations anywhere??
Sorry to be so cranky, I really am, but your tone rubs me the wrong way. This isn't a service. The ideas you want are available here on existing threads, which you can look up yourself and then ask follow up questions.
Or maybe someone will be kind enough to do all of your planning for you.

Thank you for your one suggestion. The white mountains sounds like a good start. This is a last minute plan. I was worried that peak color would be over, and have read lots of the New England replies, but was a bit over whelmed. Was hoping for local advice and suggestions not to miss. Because of cold weather, mother in law passing and Hurricane Matthew hitting Florida, this was our 3rd choice of a trip to try and go to The New England States.
I Was hoping to get any quick input and I would go from that. It sounds like the color will still be good. Thanks.
And for those negative people just remember, you never know the whole story of ones situation. My advice would be if you CHOOSE to be negative stay off the site. Any information would of been appreciated.

There was no friction' "tone"
A perfectly legitimate question when chasing the foliage. Scroll down and there is another poster arriving the same day and got some good up to date advice.
Your timing is perfect. With yesterday's rain and tonights frost the whole are should be popping. Start north and work you way down. When you decide on your first area, check with the local visitor information sites on the area towns. Sometimes they will track vacancies for lodging in the area. And the forecast looks pretty good. Be prepared for cold nights and temperate days.
These two sites might be of use.

If you happen to find yourself in the North Berkshires of Western MA, I really enjoy driving up Mount Greylock Veterans War Memorial. Before the ascent I have seen a fake graveyard (Holloween) set up on the right side of the road of the southern entrance. (if they are still doing it)

Have fun. Sounds like a lot of good color coming which is surprising to many of us considering the summer drought.
If you drive by an apple orchard - partake of the seasons bounty.

Boston west to Williamstown, MA, via MA 2.
Williamstown to Bennington, VT to Brattleboro, VT
Brattleboro, VT to New London, NH through Lakes Region
New London, NH to Hanover, NH, then north along Connecticut River back roads to Littleton, NH
From Littleton, depending on color:
Littleton to Canadian border along river and through Lancaster, NH or
Littleton to Crawford Notch, NH, to Kancamagus Highway westbound to Lincoln, NH
Lincoln, NH to St Johnsbury, VT through Franconia Notch
St Johnsbury to VT 100 via Craftsbury Common.
VT 100 South to Woodstock, VT
Woodstock to Boston
Lodging may be difficult, especially on weekend.
The weather will be chilly or cold depending on where you are from.

Thank you guys soooooo much!!!! So appreciated!!!!! Great Great ideas.
If we are able to extend our trip is Cape Cod or Nantucket worth it. Also heard the Mansion tour is pretty good along the coast.
Thanks again.

Cape Cod usually does not offer a lot of fall color, but I like off season there. Very quiet. Dress for wind and cold. Many things (shops, restaurants, lodging) will not be open, but the beautiful National Seashore doesn't close.
Weather effects the ferries to Nantucket. Some things will be closed.

There are so many good places, choose a base where you can still find lodging. A one - two hour drive can cover a lot of territory. I think color in Concord NH area is peaking but you're arriving today so color should still be good to excellent in some places. We are going to North Conway tomorrow only because we have a class to attend. Yesterday, southbound traffic on I93 was very heavy by lunch time - top speed 40 mph, sometimes 20 and sometimes stopped. Expect it to be heavy next Sunday as well. Ditto on southbound I89 or I95.
If you read some of my posts on other threads, I recommend a boat trip. Inland rivers would have great foliage viewing - out of Portsmouth NH.
Pick up the free weekly Hippo Press for event info in most of NH or visit their website. Definitely visit a local apple orchard, preferably one that grows a wide variety of apples that you will never see in a grocery store.
Even the interstate is pretty (I89 and I93).
