Upgrade stories

It's happened again. The timing is a bit off. Checked into a resort for business . purposes. They upgraded me to a 2 bedroom lakehouse - hot tub on deck - beautiful view of crescent moon over lake...and I'm alone. What kind of luck is that?!?!

But, got some GREAT decorating ideas! This is definitely a Southern Living/ Coastal Living kind of place.

Does anyone ever luck out on unexpected upgrades when there is actually someone with you to enjoy it!?!

As a matter of fact, Starrsy, we were upgraded to first class for our recent flights to/from Jackson Hole. BIL works for the airline and surprised us. And what a wonderful surprise it was!

Mom and I stumbled on the plane one time. I was loaded down with all the stuff. She had just broken her foot.

Flight attendents watched us, then one smiled and motioned us forward. She seated us in First Class. My mom was WOWED!!! What a treat!

Glad you are back, BayouGal. You were missed. Can't wait for a trip report!

Best upgrade we ever got was in Uluru, Australia. We had booked a room in the cheaper motel of the resort and were upgraded to the 5 star sails in the desert. Also the car got upgraded that trip and our flight there--first class. All in all a special experience for a very special place.

About 10 years ago, I arrived in NYC (business trip) at about 2am after a very long flight delay. Checked in at the Hyatt UN Plaza (not sure it's still a Hyatt today), got my key and went up to my room. To my total surprise, it was a massive corner suite, with a separate dining/board room with a table for about 20 and floor-to-ceiling windows looking over the East River and south toward downtown. I got to "enjoy" it, alone, from 2am until I checked out and left for my meeting at 8am.

Our best surprise upgrade ever.....boarding a plane in LA for Australia and when I handed them my boarding pass the attendant said "Oh, please step over here with your entire party" and I couldn't imagine what was up .....but they put my hubby, me and the two kids in first class - what a treat for such a long flight ! My husband kept saying, why did they do this and I kept saying 'who cares, and don't you dare ask, I'm afraid they'll change their mind!" and we never did find out why....

Scarlett lol -
and since our kids were about 15 and 12 it surprised me even more, I don't know why, just b/c I found it surprising they upgraded kids that age - this is the only time, as starrsville asked, that an unexpected upgrade of this substance, was actually enjoyed by all...

Starsville, I hope you are enjoying the room...even if you are alone...just keep repeating "I am worth it !"
Although I have to admit, that happened to my husband once when on business and I was home with 2 little ones at the time and I just never thought that was fair....

Squaw Valley Inn Plumpjacks. We paid for just a regular room but I had told them it was our anniversary. We realized that our room was over the bar and the sound was disturbing us. They moved us to the penthouse. There was a baby grand piano in it!!!!

Going to Norway for our nephew's wedding. Noticed that on the way home our travel agent had put is in the middle seats of the back row in a 3-5-3 cnfiguration from LHR to SFO. I do a travel forum which has pilots and other airline people on it, so I asked for advice on how to change the seats. They gave me the usual "how to be nice and get what you want", but telephone calls to the airline got me nothing. Nevertheless, at the plane change at Heathrow I asked about the possibility of changing the seats. He said, no way the plane is full, and then called us up on the computer and handed us business class boarding passes and said, your seats have already been changed !!

I don't know who to thank. But the best part was that it was our 35th wedding anniversary that very day.
