Update on using Autoeurope for US rentals

There was a topic awhile ago about the pros and cons of using Autoeurope for domestic US rentals. There was some small print about having to buy a tank of gas or something of the like.

Well anyway, we just did a week in Florida with Autoeurope and it was by far the cheapest option. We got a minivan for over a week at Christmas for $650ish with all taxes and fees and insurance and no drop off fee in Miami and it came with the first tank of gas free, which meant that we could return it empty with no charge. Because it was a minivan it was a final sale (usually all autoeurope rentals can be cancelled even though you pre-pay), but they told me that in the fine print. And actually I screwed up our return day and needed to add a day and they did that no problem.

So anyway, I think each city and each car type comes with different rules, so check your dates and check the prices and then CHECK THE FINE PRINT. It is actually meaningful. Plus they are super nice on the phone to deal with and you don't have to go through a giant phone tree to get a real person.

It can be a great option!

Thanks for the tip kelliebellie. I used AutoEurope for a plane fare to the Netherlands last year and got a great deal.

And they are super nice on the phone. I'm a big fan of AutoEurope, so I'm happy to use them as much as possible

Autoeurope isn't a rental company - it is a broker that hooks you up w/ any of several rental companies. Who did you actually rent from? Gas fill-up policies will depend on which company provides the car . . . . .

We had Alamo, which doesn't have one-way drop fees in Florida, so as you say, that was why there was no charge for it. I'm just saying that you are allowed to view all the rules before you commit, and they do vary widely. Going through autoeurope was cheaper than going through Alamo directly. Oh, and I forgot to add that our rate was the "gold rate" and for that car included 3 drivers! Who gives 3 drivers?!?

I guess they aren't everywhere yet. When I tried to book a car in Atlanta, I was out of luck.

Thanks for sharing your experience. This was mentioned quite a bit a few months ago, and it's good to get first-hand report!
