Yes, but I did it anyway--before the bombing we redeemed FF miles for trip to Bali for next June. We still plan to go if UAL stays in business and bombings are not a daily thing in Bali.

My cousin is a flight attendant (20 years) for United. She's taking classes at a local college and has started to send out numerous resumes. They just went for a European vacation, since she wanted to take advanatage of the free flights while she still had the perk. She suggested that I book with another airline for my April trip.

Perfectly ridiculous to post about UAL, almost suggesting something ominous is about to occur, and without saying precisely what the porblem is - are you saying UAL is going to fold, declare bankruptcy, etc. - what is the problem? This isn't helpful - if you know something, out with it so we'll all benefit. Thanks.

CX - You really need to pick up a newspaper occasionally or flip on the tv news. It must be difficult to be so out of the loop. Have you heard about the sniper in the East?

Now that's helpful, Get. If you lived where we do, you wouldn't make a joke about the sniper. Yes, I do read. There has been zip about UAL's problems recently. If you know something new and valuable, don't kepp it a secret. I'd love to know. But if you don't why not zip the lip until you've something useful to say.

I think it's fairly obvious that although most airlines are experiencing financial trouble, UAL is in the worst shape of all. There has been much speculation in the press about bankruptcy if the government doesn't bail them out. Incidently, the attitude of the employees is that they would rather go out of business than concede wages, etc. My biggest fear is that the low-cost airlines are going to eat their lunch.

How can UAL be in the worst shape when USAir has already filed bankruptcy? This is silly. The airline will not go under.

no Warren you can worry about a lot but you also have to think where do I drawl the line? I think worry about United might have more to do with financial costs of you flight or something else. If an airline has not even filed bankruptcy yet? No need for alarm.

United and U.S. Air are going to try to merge again.

No Jill, USAir and UAL are not going to "try and merge again". That is a dead deal. What they are doing is code sharing.

I hope Continental is o.k. I just had to cancal a flight with them and I found them to very nice and accomadating. I can use it up to a year, and only pay the difference in air fare if it should be higher.

Continental and Northwest are in pretty decent shape. Southwest is in good shape. The rest are struggling to different degrees. Actually, the little visit to the federal courthouse probably means USAirways will survive and may actually turn a profit before the others!

In case you managed to miss the news again yesterday, UAL announced that they're cutting back over 1,000 jobs.

yep, I did see about the additional small number of jobs. UAL hoeps for almost 6 billion in labro savings over the next five or so years. They are trying to avoid bankruptcy, and are now losing $7 million per day. The fact still remains: the posting was alarmist, without providing nay information of value. It suggested, almost, that UAL might be going under soon. Not the case apparently, They cut those jobs, remember.

If you have been reading the paper, you should also know that AAR & Delta have both cut back a number of flight attendants. They are having problems like everybody else. And contrary to opinion here, most UAL employees would NOT rather go out of business, atleast those outside of the unions, not all employees are union members. UAL will be in business for along time to come, whether they declare or not. Posters on other discussions rant & rave how UAL needs to cut back because their costs are too high. When they try to do that, posters here blow things out of proportion. Business is trying to become leaner & more cost efficient, for survial of the business & for the customers.
