Union Square NYC restaurant recommendation

Hi all. My sister and I are looking for a restaurant in the Union Square area. We have been to the Union Sq. Café and the Bluewater Grill.

She was thinking maybe vegetarian, but it doesn't have to be limited to that.

Any recommendations for us? We're looking for a Saturday for lunch before a show.

Saturday is a brunch day and some of the restaurants get extremely crowded:

For veggie food:
Angelica Kitchen
Or Haveli, an Indian restaurant.

Chat n' Chew is a good diner type of place.

While I like Gotham a great deal, Tocqueville is excellent as not as well known. Unfortunately they do not open until 5 PM. But if are willing to spend the money and have the time, that is the place.

Same with Cacio e Pepe-romano style cooking opens at 5 PM.

Some of other favorites are the Brindle Room, Back Forty on Ave A, Spina on Ave A. and Rai Rai Ken (ramen)

Do not go to:
Coffee Shop or just about any restaurant on Park South including the over rated and over priced Samba Sushi and City Crab.

Without a doubt, I would recommend ABC Kitchen or ABC Cocina. I like them both very much and visit them both quite often. (For dinner, not brunch)

You must book in advance.

Both have veg options but ABC Kitchen may have more of these.

Thank you, all! There were no reservations available at ABC or friend of a Farmer. We have a reservation at the The House.

I appreciate your input, thanks.
