U.S.Airways voucher

I have a travel voucher to use from being bumped on a previous flight. Is there any way to tell, when searching on-line, which flights have seats left for this purpose?

You could use the voucher on any USAir flight. When used for a ticket purchase it's like cash. The vouchers are usually valid for 1 year from the date of issue, so that's the only thing you have to remember.

My experience, with using a US Air voucher, is that it was for "award" seating. And it couldn't be used for an open-jaw (into one city, out from another,) flight, either. This was in the 2001-2 time-frame. There was no way (and I had this confirmed) for me to determine from web-searching whether there were award-seats available on a particular flight. I had to make several phone calls to put together a trip that was suitable.

American was delightful! Their voucher was just like cash, for any available domestic seating. We each had $500 vouchers. Did an open-jaw from PA to California (into LAX and return from SFO.) And, as that trip was about $350, we got another voucher for the $150 difference. And the second one was dated from the time we used the first one....

AA, are you sure about this? If the voucher is for a cash amount, then yes. On USAirways, I believe, the ticket is for roundtrip travel regardless of amount. These tickets are capacity-controlled.

My experience with a US Air voucher was that it could be used exactly like cash. No "award" restrictions.

The only small problem was I had to go to the airport to buy the ticket because at that time (2001) there was no way to redeem the voucher by phone or internet.

I got the voucher for $150 because I sent a polite complaint letter...USAir has always been pretty good to me.

Well, I could be wrong. I was basing my reply on my experience with AA. That would suck if voucher seats are capacity control. How do they get volunteers when overbooked??? I also had voucher experience with CO and NW and it was always like cash.

I think the point here is that it DOES matter whether you have a "roundtrip ticket" voucher or a "$200" (or some other amount) voucher. If it's an amount, then you should be able to apply it to any available fare. If it's just a generic roundtrip travel voucher, then you'll have to call USAirways to find which flights have seats!
