Two days in Iowa City

I will actually be spending a week there at a conference at the University of Iowa, but will have a day and a half or so to myself beforehand. Any suggestions? I'm from Boston, have seen little of the midwest. I'm staying at the Sheraton downtown and will not have a car. I usually like museums, culture, and am up for pretty much anything as long as it's local and authentic.

I went to Cedar Rapids last summer to see a Kernels game. They're the Angels Class A farm team. It must be fairly close because my friend drove up from Iowa City to join us. We also went to the Field of Dreams in Dyersville and ate a Maid Rite sandwich. Have a great trip!

At 31 miles, that would be a rather long walk to Cedar Rapids.

Any ideas? Reminder: I'm without a car. What is there to do in downtown Iowa City? Thanks.

Kalona is near and I realize you have no car, but there might be a Kalona tour available. It is very Amish at Kalona and we enjoyed it but we were driving. I also remember eating the best pork ribs in my life at Iowa City. Have forgotten the restaurant name, however, but Iowa is known for the pork they produce. The Midwest people are generally helpful and friendly, so we hope you enjoy your stay !

Much as there interesting things in the area, the ones I have enjoyed require transportation.

Perhaps you and someone else from the conference can split a rental car and run out to the Amana Colonies.
