I got home from work in time for the 2nd half of the game but when I saw how aggressively the Canes were playing it was clear they were taking the hits to the Oilers. Then when the Canes survived the 2 man penalty toward the end of the 2nd period it sure looked good. I about jumped off the couch (and thats saying alot ) when they got the MT net goal. BTW Bonnie the Tar Hell baseball team is the in college WS. Are you watching that? Cheers. Larry

Bonnie, I need your help, please. My brother and his girlfriend have been vacationing at Block Island. He rented a moped and had a wreck. She is fine, but he broke a rib and has some pretty bad road rash. He called me from LGA last night on his way home to Raleigh. He was pretty down. I want to cheer him up and nothing does it for him like chocolate cake. Can you please recommend a bakery or shop in Raleigh which would deliver a really wonderful cake ?
Thanks...and GO CANES!

cmcfong, let me do a little research for you. There's a place I read about in the N&O that I'd planned to get a cake from sometime .... but haven't yet. Believe it or not, the best cakes I buy are from my Harris-Teeter bakery, and I'm picky! I usually bake cakes myself so am not real current on the best bakeries. Will get back to you later ... So sorry your brother had this happen to him!

AND YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How about our 'Canes??????????

Larry, that whole game last night was simply incredible. The Hurricanes let it be known from the get-go that "this is our house!!!" Did you hear that our fans STOOD THE ENTIRE GAME? One of the lines in our paper today: Take that, Canada! Hockey belongs to Mayberry! I do congratulate the Oilers for one heck of a series!

REDNECK HOCKEY is hear to stay, I guess!!! Thank you for all your support, Larry!

Tiff, Sid, Scarlett, Starrsville, Gretchen ......... AIN'T THIS FUN!!!

I just hope Dan didn't get so excited and tipsy with joy that he fell off his cruise ship ........

Bonnie: No I had no idea the fans stood that long. The announcers mentioned at some point in the 3rd period that the fans were standing but I didn't know they stood so long. All I know is I would have hated to be right behind a tall dude.
The Stanley Cup in Mayberry! Who woulda thunk it .

My favorite comment from the N&O message boards:

THEY SHOULD FILL THE STANLEY CUP WITH GRITS AND HAUL IT AROUND IN A PICK-UP TRUCK!!!

Bonniebroad! I'm so happy the Canes wiped out those evil Oilers (who wiped out my Red Wings earlier in the playoffs) and yes, it was very cool the fans stood the whole time. It was a great game to watch - and the last goal was hilarious!

Just remember though... the Wings will be back next year with a vengance!

Enjoy the Cup this year. Next year it's coming to Buffalo!

For any hockey fans..if you get to Toronto, go to the hockey hall of fame. It's pretty neat.

Insert Rebel Yell here...

bonnie, all of the horses over at the Hunt Complex were wondering what the noise was coming from the RBC. We had been listening to the game (and watching it in the cafeteria and on portables set up in the stall areas), so we knew what was coming, but you could hear the whooping and hollering just like everyone was RIGHT THERE!

Way to go Canes!

This reminds me of the days when the Chi Bulls were at their peak and I have a story/confession to tell. It was game 6 in 1998 vs. the Jazz. Well this could be the last game as the Bulls were up 3-2 and I just HAD to see it. The only problem was we had a wedding to go to. We decided to make up a story. We went to the beginning of the wedding but told the parents my aunt unexpectedly was coming in form CA. at MIDWAY, way across town so we had a good excuse to leave. We went home, changed into our Bulls clothes and watched them pull off a thriller. Our son, 16 at the time invited a bunch of friends, around 10 or so to our house, Please try to imagine how loud it got with 10 teens going nuts when the Bulls won. . Yes, we were pretty lond too. Then we got dressed up again and went back to the wedding in time for dinner and dancing. What a day. When a cities major sports team wins a championship it just energises the town more than anything else. I'd luv to be in Raleigh or Miami today.
