Turning 40 in Vegas

Hi all. I am usually on the Caribbean board, but I have a question that I know that many of you will weigh in on, so here goes.
My sigh..40th is coming up and DH surprised me with airline tickets today for March. Now the question...where to stay? I have been on Orbitz and Travelzoo and I don't know if it's best to go with one of them for the hotel, or to call the hotel directly. Some hotels that looked good on the main strip are: MGM, Venetian, Bellagio, Caesars Palace and Mirage. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
Karen

We liked Bellagio and did not like Mirage or Luxor, we liked the wynn also.
I also went to LV for the big 40.

I would suggest signing up for email alerts from each of these hotels. The packages in the email alerts are always really good!! If it were ME, I'd stay at the Venetian, but I have heard some good things recently about the Wynn. Have a blast!

We have stayed at all of your hotel choices and they are all very nice. MGM is pretty much near the south end of the Strip while the others are more mid-Strip, so easier to walk to nearby places. You won't go wrong with any of these choices, however.

Is it your first trip?
I agree, Wynn is your best choice.
Then Venetian (Palazzo), then Bellagio.
And I love the Signature, but it's at the MGM just off the strip, so some may not like it's location.

If you can afford it go for the Wynn or the new Palazzo connected to the Venetain. Booking directly is cheaper than using an Orbitz. Sign up for each hotel you are interrested in to get their email promotions.

Wynn's restaurants have blown away dining in the other casinos as a whole at this point.

Ps, the Venetian is a Priceline hotel, and I suspect the Palazzo will show up too in the future. Go to www.biddingfortravel.com to see reports of winning bids. Hope this helps.

I, too, spent my 40th in Vegas with several friends~it was great! We went for inexpensive and stayed at the Stratosphere, which was fine as we didn't spend a lot of time in the room.....We had a very good meal at Gallagher's Steak House in NY,NY. If you're looking for nice accomodations, stay at the Bellagio or the Venetian. The fountains are beautiful. The view from the top of the Stratosphere is impressive, and so are the rides at the top if you're the type who enjoys being scared witless. The roller coaster at NY,NY is fun; any of the Cirque du Soleil shows are well worth the ticket price. Happy Birthday!

Thank you! Should we get tickets before we actually arrive, or can we wait until we get there. If we need to get some in advance, who do we contact?

It seems as though Vegas is a popular place for the 40th B'day....my two good friends and I who all turned 40 a few years ago went for our 40th celebration and we had a great time. We stayed off the strip in a timeshare as we all do not like the smoke at the casino hotels.

One show that we saw that we really liked was La Reve at the Wynn.

We booked Cirque tickets (we saw Mystere) ahead of time and ended up with front row seats. Also, Roxy's at the Stratosphere is a good place for a relatively inexpensive breakfast and 50's diner-style entertainment. If they find out it's your birthday, you will be the entertainment~I had to hula-hoop but earned a sundae for it....

If you booked the Venetian definitely make sure it is a renovated room- we had one of the older rooms a few years ago and it was bad!

I love the restaurant Bouchon in the Venetian.

Happy Birthday!! yikes my 40th is this year too!

stormygirl.....Thanks for the info. I have called the hotel and have made sure that it is a renovated room. Due to our flight arrival time (early from the east coast), they are trying to "grant my wishes". If not, I am not shy about calling the front desk, once checked in, to have a "heart to heart". LOL
Happy 40 to you, as well. Isn't that the new 30?????

I'm celebrating my 40th this year also.........we're a great bunch!! I hope you have a fabulous time in Vegas. I've been several times and have stayed at both the Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood) and Treasure Island. Some people don't like the new Planet Hollywood because the casino is difficult to navigate (that's true) but the hotel is beautiful and you can't beat the central location. You'll absolutely love the Venetian so don't worry about your choice - be sure and visit Madame Tussauds Wax Museum while you're there (it's in the Venetian).....well worth your money. I agree with Roxie's at the Stratosphere. We had lunch there and enjoyed it tremendously. It's just a "Happy Days" type place but the waiters and waitresses sing and dance as well as take care of you and your food. It was a surprisingly good experience. Also, take it from someone who learned the hard way...it took me 3 trips before I discovered the "Deuce" bus. About $7 will get you a 24 pass and you'll NOT regret it. You can't possibly walk everywhere and see it all. Especially not from the Venetian to the Stratosphere. Also, please keep in mind that there's so much more to do in Vegas besides sitting at a slot machine or a blackjack table. The opportunities for shows and sightseeing are limitless. Enjoy your birthday!!!
