TSA Pre-check and Nexus/Global Entry at Newark Airport

We'll be flying into Newark next month. Can we use our Nexus/Global Entry cards there or do we have to have this Pre-Check thing as well?

PreCheck is for security. Global Entry is for immigration and customs. Where are you flying from?

You'll pre-clear US Immigration/Customs in Toronto (that's right, in Toronto). They have Global Entry Kiosks you can use.

As Patty pointed out TSA-Precheck is used to expedite Trusted Travelers through the TSA Checkpoint at select US airports and only for certain select airlines at those airports. You'll be boarding your plane in Canada and going through the Canadian version of TSA - they do not honor the US TSA-Precheck.

And coming from the US to Toronto, I can use the Nexus machines, right?

The reason I was confused is that we went to Buenos Aires earlier this year and had a stopover in Newark. It was leaving Newark as a non-US citizen where I think I couldn't use the card. I'm just not sure I'm remembering that correctly.

If it's just Canada to Newark and back, I believe the Nexus line is available to me, is that right?

The Nexus Card can only be used for travel between the US and Canada. That's why you couldn't use it on your Buenos Aires flight.

It's an international card (Nexus/Global Entry). That's OK. Thanks for your help, RA. I'm pretty sure I can use it in and out of Newark.

We were told by the nexus office in Toronto that we could use the nexus card anytime we enter Canada. I asked explicitly because I had heard we could only use it coming in from the US.
