trustworth advice from maui revealed?

Sorry, another RTH question! The Maui Revealed book states that if you are staying in Hana overnight, it is better to leave after 10:30 to avoid crowds. Does anyone have any experience with this? Every other travel guide I have read says to leave as early as possible. Also, any recommedations on stops on the south road from Hana would be appreciated!

Thanks!

The folks who live in Hana but work elsewhere, pour out of Hana early in the morning -- as do folks who need to catch flights out, etc.

Take you time to depart...have breakfast, dawdle awhile, and then you'll be well _behind_ all the early-starters!

nomadic_soul, the travel books emphasize *as early as possible* when traveling TO Hana. I think the opposite advice applies upon the return, as Auntiemaria says.

if you've got Hawaiian blood in you, there's something called "Hawaiian time," meaning that as early is possible should be no earlier than 10 am...or 11-ish. if not Hawaiian, this may apply if you have kids too.

eRnO -
I hear ya! As I read the guidebooks and other sources of advice, they always say, "Be sure and see this before 7 am," etc. I'm thinking, yeah right... Maybe I could do it, but my family? Not likely. The islands always pull me between the desires to "hang loose" and "go, go, go"!

sorry, to clarify I meant when to leave to go to Hana, although the advice about when to return is helpful also!

Early departure is good, but if you dawdle on the way (the state park, waterfalls, etc.), the traffic will catch up with you anyway. Just relax and enjoy.
