Tropicana or Flamingo w/ kids?
Looks like Tropicana/Flamingo are about the same room and rates-Flamingo a little higher for our stay. Interested in pool area, which one is better? We have kids 8-16 and do not gamble. My kids don't like having to go through smokey casinos all the time or heavily smokey pools. Any experience will be very helpful. Thank you!

We stayed at Flamingo. From our room it was possible to get off elevator and go directly to coffee shop, restaurants, or outside to pool area or to see penguins, flamingoes, etc. Am not sure if this is the case from all rooms. Pool is great, although we were there in August and it was 105 degrees and very crowded - as would any pool be under those circumstances.

The Tropicana Pool is nice, but the Flamingo looked a bit nicer when we walked through (we stayed at trop).
I do know that there are non-casino entrances to the Trop, but the only one we used was off a parking lot in the back, and led quickly to the Island Tower rooms. It would be a bit of a pain to walk back there from the strip, but convenient if you're driving anywhere. That said, it was not a terribly long walk through the casino to get back to the pool access area at the Trop either, so that's not too bad.
I'd probably choose Flamingo for the pool, and the location. Don't know if they have access other than through the casino, though.
Also, there are flamingos, penguins, turtles and fish in areas around the Flamingo pool. You can see these whether you are staying there or not, but your kids might enjoy walking past those to go the pool each day.
