Trip to Washington,D.C.

My husband and I are planning a quick 4 day trip to see the sights in Washinton,DC around Christmas. We will land at Dulles and want to spend some time at the new air and space museum there. Could you suggest where would be the best choice of places to stay. Should we rent a car or use the transit?
Thanks for suggestions.

I'm not familiar with the new museum, but you shouldn't need a car in DC itself. The Metro will take you to the major attractions.

The new museum is great, but you can see it in under an hour or 2. The rest of the stuff is all downtown on and near the Mall. There is no metro to DC so you can "Super Shuttle" there if you like. Don't forget to see the Vietnam Vet's Memorial! My favorite.

The Ritz Carlton in Georgetown is very nice!

I'd suggest the Holiday Inn in Rosslyn, VA. Subway station stop very close by.

My suggestion to you is to take a taxi to the farthest Virginia subway stop outside of D.C. (of course in Dulles direction - there is the orange and blue lines). Then take the subway the rest of the way to D.C. to save money. If you do not want to take a taxi there may be a round trip limousine service that you can take to and from the airport. Check into hotels giving you free transportation from Dulles.

We were in DC 3 wks ago for a long w/e, and while we didn't visit the new Air and Space Museum, we did find it convenient to stay in the District...We Pricelined a room and ended up 2 blocks from the White House, great location and the hotel was nice too! To/from the airport, we decided to take SuperShuttle which was easy and convenient. The rest of the time we walked or rode the Metro. We enjoyed ourselves and 4 days gave us just enough time to see and do what we wanted. Have fun!
