Trip to Charleston and Possibly Savannah
Hello Fodor Friends,
I'm usually in the Europe forums daydreaming about a multi-week backpacking trip. I was thinking about a quicker trip as a Christmas surprise to take my girlfriend to a city we have both dreamed of visiting. We live in D.C. so Charleston, SC is super close! I was trying to plan it out and was thinking about adding Savannah on as a potential second city to visit and fly out from since it's not much more expensive.
I was considering some itineraries that would look like:
Saturday March 10 Fly into Charleston around 1:30 pm
Spend the rest of Saturday until early Tuesday morning in Charleston
Drive to Savannah and spend Tuesday and Wednesday there until flight at 4pm.
Is this too much of a rush for Savannah. We don't need to spend a ton of time there for our interests but it would be cool to see another place on this quick trip. I've seen that Charleston has enough points of interest for five days so maybe just staying there the whole time would be better. We could also do a quicker day trip and just stay in Charleston the whole time.
I was just curious to get some thoughts from those experience with either of the cities or ideally both. We are interested in outdoors activities, hiking, history, museums, arts, FOOD, bars, beaches (we know it won't be warm enough), and music among other things.
Let me know if I can provide any more insight. Thanks!

JMHO, but think your timing sounds about right. You can see and do a lot in Charleston in 3 days. Savannah is smaller and has fewer attractions, so you can cover a fair amount there in the time allotted.
