trip itinerary

Hello! We are thinking of taking a trip to Maine in September. Itinerary is as follows:

Fly into Boston Friday Sept 15 -- stay in Boston for Firday and Saturday nights.

Drive up to Phippsburg or Boothbay or somewhere around there for 3 nights; then to Southwest Harbor (near Bar Harbor) for 3 nights then Kennebunkport for 3 nights and back to Boston to fly home. Are these places far enough apart to give us enough to do or will we be backtracking into the same place. Any ideas on bed and breakfasts to stay at? I was thinking of the Kingsleigh Inn in Southwest Harbor and Inn at Harbor Head in Kennebunkport but not really anything in the middle.

Our thought was to hop[scotch up and back so that no day woud the drive be longer than around 3 hours.

Any input welcomed.

Thanks

That's a goodly amount of distance. We have spent a week in Searsport and enjoyed being close enough to head south to Camden and Rockport/Rockland or north to Bar Harbor. There will be plenty to do in the Southwest Harbor area. You will have to drive thru Camden if you go on Rt 1 so stopping on your way thr might be enough (although a few hours is not nearly enough). You might stop at other things on the way to Kennebunkport such as the Farnsworth Museum in Rockport or the great little lobster place after you go buy the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Boothbay is out on a point and a little too far out of the way for my tastes but definitely worth a visit. It depends on if you want some relaxing time. I like the Damariscotta area for a week because you can spend a day in Boothbay but it's easy to head in a different direction. I think you've chosen a good variety of places. The great outdoors near Bar Harbor vs lots of shops around Kennebunkport. The time it takes to drive out to a point on the Maine coast can be deceiving plus you can spend extra time exploring different roads. Another couple told us about a little detour near Searsport that took us to a lovely out-of-the-way Victorian cottage colony. You'll have a great time.

You will get more help if you put the word "Maine" in your headling.

Sorry mpkp, we camp when we vacation in Maine. Try reposting with Maine in the title as was suggested. We stayed at the hotel near Pemaquid Point years ago but again, being out on a point adds miles to your travels. Do visit Pemaquid Point, however to see the beautiful lighthouse and the nearby lobster places (Round Top).
