Tribeca Film Festival: looking for the 'whats' and 'hows'!
My husband and I will be in NYC during the Tribeca Film Festival 2007. At this point, we don't really know much about it and their website http://www.tribecafilmfestival.org/ isn't providing a lot of help yet either (a lot is still listed as "coming soon"). Are we just too early trying to gather information? Does anyone have any advice to help us plan a day revolving around it? Is it worth it? Any advice would appreciated (I feel clueless!). Thanks!

2007 will be the sixth year of the Tribeca Film Festival! You are going to have a great time! I live close enough to be able to pick and choose which films to attend and maintain a day job... If you go to :

they Suggest waiting until the end of March- TONY (Time Out New York) always does an amazing preview and listing as does the NY Times. When you see what movies have made it to the festival you will be in a better position to plan your time.

Thanks mclaurie and jtp. That website link is very informative.
Now that it is getting closer, I'm able to find more info, but I'm still having a hard time grasping where to start, what exactly we'll want to do, how much time we'll want to spend, deciding which tickets to purchase, etc.. I'm hoping anyone w/ experience can help guide me a little.
Also, how can I get copies of the TONY and NY Times preview? Is that something I can order or do I just have to wait to pick it up when in NYC?
Thanks again!

I've attended TFF films every year since its inception and it keeps getting worse & worse. Too many films, too many BAD films, and horribly organized.
One Example: I, along with about 200 other people, bought tickets to a "special screening" at the Prada store in Soho and NO ONE FROM THE FESTIVAL showed up. The crowd just stood in front of a locked door until finally some intern ran up apologizing. Ticket refunds took 2 months.
In my humble opinion, the best film festival in NYC is held each year by GenArt, www.genart.org. This year's festival is the week of April 11, I believe.

The easiest way to get tickets is to stalk the website. The presale tickets are coming up soon, and that's really the best way to do it. They tend to sell out fast.
The easiest shows to get into are the ones during the day. The best showings to try and get are the ones where the directors/actors/producers will be talking.
I really enjoy the short films in particular. You won't get to see those in wide release otherwise, and they're usually pretty interesting.
The schedules and info are up now, and they sort the films by interest, catagory...etc. etc. It really depends on what you're interested in. If you give some hints about what you like, I can maybe point you in the right direction.
