If I were taking my 13 year old niece, I'd fly in, check into the Princess, splash around a bit, head out to Taliesin (I think it's an hour tour), eat at a neat restaurant and head back and watch a movie in the room. (Or, better yet, room service dinner and a movie).
Then hang out all day Saturday at the hotel and hit the multiple pools and water park. Enjoy a cactus blossum daiquari or two (virgin for her). Eat dinner and then do the swim-in movie at the pool.
Sounds like fun - can I tag along?

If you stay at the Pointe South Mountain there is a waterpark at the resort for an additional fee. It is less if you stay there but if you want to just visit the waterpark you can do that as well.
No one likes to ride in the car for a long time but the scenery and weather in Sedona is worth it. We have done day trips there without a problem.
