Traveling alone to Vegas
To make a long story short I may have to travel alone in May for my vacation. I want to see & experience as much as I can but am not really sure that I want to be alone; no one to talk to, no one to eat with, etc. Has anyone ever spent time in Vegas alone? What was it like?

Although I have never gone to Vegas alone, I have seen many people who are alone. I don't know if they actually came to Vegas alone - but it's not at all unusual for people to split up with their "party" to get a meal, gamble (of course), visit the different casinos to see everything, etc. So, I guess if you don't mind being alone anywhere else, being in Vegas alone should be even easier. That's just my opinion.

I agree that Las Vegas would probably be a relatively easy place to go and enjoy yourself even if you're alone
As long as you like to walk, there's so much to see in Las Vegas... it's easy to spend 2-3 days just walking through the different major casinos and seeing their own attractions. Plus, in May you'll probably want to spend time at your hotel's pool. All these seem like relatively enjoyableativities even if you're by yourself. Of course, gambling is a relatively solitary experience, if you want to do that for a while
as for meals, there are lots of restaurant format options...sit-down, buffet, food courts, etc...so you can pick whatever you're most comfortable with. Plus, I think you'll find that there are lots of people eating alone because they've split up from a group or they're an employee or whatever

I've done Vegas (somewhat) alone.
I met my fiance there who was there on business AND got sick while there... so i was alone during the day while she worked and i was alone at nite while she slept in the room.
It wasn't too bad... most of my day was spent at the pool and seeing the "sights" while my evenings were spent seeing the sights. There's so much to see and do.
I have a list of "things to do" in Vegas (most of the free sights) if you'd like me to email it to you.
As well, if you'd like to go downtown, a cab by yourself will likely be expensive (~$20-$25 each way) so i'd recommend taking the EXPRESS public bus to downtown. It's about $2.50 to downtown, makes only 4 stops between the strip and downtown, and gives you an opportunity to see the "non-hotel" part of Vegas (from the safety of the bus!)

i have spent a couple of days in vegas on my own, waiting for my friends/family to join me. i stay in downtown and i don't know if it's because i'm from hawaii and a lot of hawaiians are around, it's easy to strike up conversations with the people around. especially sitting at a table game!
i'm not too keen on eating at restaurants on my own so i normally eat take out, go to the hotel coffee shop, or i indulge myself with an in 'n out burger before the rest of the gang get in (all they want is buffets). but i have seen lots of lone diners at the coffee shops/cafes.
there are lots of shows to go to where you don't talk too much to the person you're with anyway, and lots to see at the various hotels. plus i usually go shopping at the outlet mall on my own.
if you decide to go, i'm sure you'll have a great time.

Las Vegas is the best place to go if you are travelling alone. I went in January for 6 days, and I had a GREAT time!
Don't feel weird about going to the buffets alone, as there are lots of people eating by themselves, maybe because their mate is off gambling somewhere. The same applies for the shows, or whatever else you would like to do. Everyone is very friendly, and if you don't want anyone to know you are alone, you can just tell them that your mate is gambling and everyone will believe it.
If you are staying on the Strip, just use the bus that runs up and down it. It is $2.00 and very safe. That way you won't have to spend a fortune on cabs.
Even at night time, walking up and down the Strip is very safe, and you won't feel awkward being by yourself.
The good side is, if you are an energetic walker, you can see as much of all the new hotels as you want, and you won't have to slow down because the person you're with is tired, or doesn't want to see what you want to see.
You'll have a great time!
