Travel time from Ballard to downtown Seattle?
I'll be in Seattle from a Monday through a Friday in July, the middle three days to be spent in training sessions in the Ballard area/neighborhood. I expect the majority of my evening activities will be in Capitol Hill and other parts of downtown Seattle.
Should I stay in downtown Seattle and do a reverse commut to Ballard in the morning or stay in Ballard and just head downtown for dinner etc.? Also.... is public tranpsortation good enough to get me back and forth adequately? The facility where I'll be working is in the 4500 block of Leary Way NW.

Hi Owen, I live in the Ballard neighborhood. Don't have specific answers but may be able to give you some direction. First, I'm not aware of any motels/hotels in Ballard (it's a bedroom neighborhood; where you'll be is more commercial/industrial). Downtown Seattle, where majority of the hotels are, is very close to Ballard. They aren't cheap however. Seattle has a decent public bus system. Buses from downtown to Ballard and Capitol Hill are available. Not sure about the bus service to the Leary facility (that's between the Ballard and Fremont neighborhoods). I think you can check bus routes/schedules on line by going to transit.metrokc.gov . Taking cabs might be more efficient (need to phone to arrange cabs). Hope this helps!

Transportation between Ballard and Capitol Hill is awkward. Your best bet is to stay downtown or in Lower Queen Anne Hill (near Seattle Center). The latter has good transportation to downtown, Ballard, and Capitol Hill (#8).

Owen, there's a bus right on Leary that goes downtown, with frequent service. Getting to Capitol Hill (a big area - specific location makes a difference) will involve one bus change, either downtown or in the University District. I would stay downtown, besides which I also don't know of any hotels in the Ballard area.
However you get around, don't miss a chance to hit Medin's Ravioli Station at 4620 Leary if you possibly can. Vastly under-rated (IMO) interesting place - designer ravioli.
