Hi, travelling to eastern PA for Thanksgiving from the midwest. On-line travel sites differ on preferred route. One says stay north via 80; other says go south via Turnpike.

Is there an advantage for one over the other. The mileage is almost identical either way. I've done the Turnpike route before, and wonder if 80 is more heavily travelled by trucks.

I'd say if you're looking for the fastest (but boring) route, take the turnpike. But that may lead to a question: what's your specific destination?

Depends on where you are heading. If all is equal, I would take 80. It is much more pleasant. The turnpike is a real "pain". 80 may have more trucks, but they are easier to deal with than on the antiquated turnpike.

On 80, you're more likely to hit a deer. The turnpike is more expensive. The former is not to be ignored--many thousands are hit each year on 80.

80 has a lot of trucks, but I've always had more traffic problems on the Turnpike. I would probably go with 80, but it may depend on exactly where you're headed.

We are heading to an area about 30 minutes south of Quakertown, in unicorporated Montgomery County (does that sound right? It's the in-laws' house).

I think we'll try 80, but with a careful eye out for deer. Fortunately, most of our driving will be daylight, as we have it planned.
