A lot of the websites are run by the same company. One is ace-net.com , but if you search the web, you'll find hundreds. Caesar's has very nice rooms. I tried to get one last week, but everything was sold out, due to the teacher convention. I stayed at Super 8, instead. Cheap ($42) per night, close to the boardwalk, not too bad inside. The Sands runs the Madison Hotel, which has some CHEAP rates on weeknights. It is connected to the casinos via an elevated walkway.
If you want $ left over for gambling, go for one of the non-casino hotels (Comfort Inn, Super 8, etc), and you'll have at least $100 more per night to gamble away! By the way, try to visit the Borgata. NICE!

Here are a couple of sites on Atlantic City. Sorry, I can't help with hotels on the boardwalk. I can tell you that the best hotel in Atlantic City is the Borgata near the marina.
http://www.theborgata.com/
From there you can take the jitney ($1.50 per each way) to and from the boardwalk.
