Travel from Seattle WA to Oceanside CA

What route is best to drive from Seattle WA to Oceanside CA May 22 -28. We will be in Oceanside for a week after the drive down. So we have 7 days to drive down.

How long are you spending in Oceanside after you get there? Are you driving back to Seattle in early June? Your car or a one way rental?
Do you want the full coastal experience down US 101 or do you want to stop at Crater Lake and or Lassen NP?

Oh - and do you want to spend any time in San Francisco?

If you were a friend of mine, visiting me in Seattle and not returning here, I would urge you to consider these: The Columbia River Gorge, The Oregon Coast from Cannon Beach to Brookings, the redwoods of northern California, the Napa or Sonoma Wine Districts, San Francisco, and Highway 1 from Carmel to Cambria. If time permits I would suggest you also consider Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Laguna Beach and other seaside towns between Los Angeles and Oceanside.

maybe they have friends there . . . or they're staying at a time share . . . or on business . . . or they have a child at Camp Pendleton - could be LOTS of reasons.

One problem you'll have is that Memorial Day weekend is smack in the middle of your 7-day drive. Lots of hotels in popular areas will have multi-day minimum stay requirements, and some of the more iconic spots may already be booked up. You're also going to encounter heavier than normal traffic and tourist crowds in some areas.

Navarette, Oceanside is a long drive from most of the places tourists usually visit in San Diego County. As you want to see interesting things/places on your drive south, it seemed logical to think you'd want to see similar places once you're here.

Oceanside is not a long way from the attractions people want to see in S.D. county. It is less than an hour from downtown S.D.

On our trip down the coast we visited Mt. St. Helens, Florence (OR), Crater Lake, Mt. Lassen, San Francisco, Monterey, L.A.

I wouuld also recommend the Hearst Castle.

Janis, knock it off, You have asked exactly the same question about other locations in the past. I have no idea why you now want to dump om me. It does not reflect well on you.

navarette, I hope the weather is good to you!

I had not thought about Memorial Day being during our trip. Thanks for reminding me. We can not decide if we will take highway 1 or not. What are your thoughts on this?
