Transportation - JFK to Pearl River, NY (Rockland County)
I am looking for a way to get from JFK to Pearl River, NY without renting a car - any airport shuttle services that go out that far? My preliminary research hasn't turned up any. My husband needs to go there for a training course, but would rather not rent a car because he would only need it for transportation to and from the airport.

There may be direct shuttle bus service. Check the options listed at the bottom of this JFK Airport transportation listings:
http://www.panynj.gov/airports/jfk-t...n-service.html
Via public transportation there are a few options.
Via train:
AirTrain from JFK to Jamaica Station (10 minutes)
From Jamaica, Long Island Railroad to New York Penn Station in Manhattan (15 minutes)
At Penn Station, walk to the section of the station that serves New Jersey Transit and take a train on the Pascack Valley Line to Pearl River (This will require a change of train along the way at Secaucus Junction) (60-75 minutes)
If he accomplishes this trip and all its connections in under three hours, he will have made good time.
Via bus combination:
From JFK Airport terminal, take New York Airport Service Bus to Port Authority Bus Terminal at 42nd St in Manhattan. (75 minutes)
From Port Authority, take a CoachUSA bus to Pearl River (90 minutes)
Fewer connections so there may be less time waiting, but in a bus he may get stuck in traffic.

By going to maps.google.com and typing at the top, JFK airport to Pearl River, NY and then chosing "public transportation" there are directions for using trains from JFK to Manhattan and from there to Pearl River. Whether there may be direct shuttle service from JFK avoiding Manhattan is something the place where he's doing the training should be able to tell you. You could also do a google search for car services or shuttle services in Pearl River.

Thanks for the help. It looks like he is just going to go with the car rental because I am totally striking out with shuttle services. I wish the travel department at his office had booked him on a flight to Newark because it looks like the drive from Newark to Pearl River is a lot easier than from JFK.
I had already found the ground transportation site for JFK and struck out. And I did the public transportation routing on Google - 3 hours - wow. On your advice I tried searching for shuttle services in Pearl River and got nowhere. Damn. Oh well, it was worth a shot.
