Transportation Into Haines Town
So I'm staying in Juneau next month for a week, and I wanted to take a day trip to Haines, by ferry. Looking at the schedule, I know this is doable. However, I've noticed that the ferry terminal is located quite a ways outside of the town. I saw in another forum that someone did the same trip, and they prearranged a shuttle, and the driver ended up giving them a tour. I don't want a tour or anything like that. I just need a ride into town, and then a ride back to the ferry.
So my question is, are there shuttles/taxis waiting at the ferry terminal, or do you need to arrange transportation in advance?

Is bringing a bike an option?

As Far as I can tell. But Haines has a tourist info center. Call them and ask.

When I was in Haines for the day (off a cruise) they use the school bus as a temporary shuttle. A few people also rented cars. I think if you rent from an agency they would pick you up at the terminal. Assuming you have enough time to do that.
The info on car rental agencies is on the tourist website also. However I wouldn't count on any cars available.
Renting a bike and bringing it on the ferry and/or/hitchhiking is another option. Allow for the possibility of rain. Hopefully you are a fast walker just in case the taxi doesn't work out or is already fully booked.

Yeah, I will probably call the visitor center first.
There's no sense in renting a car if I'm only gonna be in town for 3 hours and only just need transportation to and from town.
I was gonna wait for the weather report before booking anything.
Walking is out of the question. By the time I'll get to town, I'll have to start heading back.
Cycling also isn't an option.
School bus sounds cool.
The shuttle being filled/booked is a scenario that crossed my mind.
Worst case scenario, I might be able to find another passenger on board who can give me a ride.
It seems like there used to be more taxis, but there was just no demand for them. This is a problem I didn't anticipate, but I'll figure something out.

Or just start walking to town with your thumb out and turn around after an hour and half.
I liked Haines a lot. I went back a few years ago, again another cruise that I made sure stopped in Haines and not Skagway.
