Transportation from airport in Oahu
Anyone have advice on getting from the airport to the hotel (near wakiki beach)? We were quoted $30 per person, roundtrip. However, there are 8 of us, making the total $240. It would seem to make more sense to rent a car and drive it to the hotel and pay for the parking. We are only staying one night before heading off to Maui. Does anyone know of cheaper transport? Thanks!

Mary, Have you thought about a limo? With 8 people to split the cost, it should be affordable for you. Less than a year ago, I arranged for a limo to do a roundtrip from the airport to the Hilton on Waikiki Beach AND on the following day do a roundtrip to the Don Ho show from the Hilton to the Waikiki Beachcomber. BOTH roundtrips, including lei's for four people, was $220. I'm thinking that just the hotel transfers should be $100 to $150 for you. It was a fabulous limo with plenty of room for eight and the driver was great. Try e-mailing him at: [email protected] to get a quote. His name is Richard "Lee" Saunders (call him Lee). Hope this helps. You can e-mail me if you have any questions!

Take two cabs! It's about $25 from the airport to Waikiki (with the tip). You can easily fit four to a car. Most of the cab companies will give you a coupon for a significant discount to return to the airport (ie. $5 per person). It should cost you $60 max. Also, if you are all staying at the same hotel, they might even pick you up for free.
The shuttles are about $12 per person but with 8 people, the taxis are cheaper. Aloha!

Since the last posts on this topic were a couple of years ago, I wanted to bump it up.
I'll be arriving in HNL around 8pm and have a 7:30am flight to LIH the next morning. I'm staying on a free night at the Hyatt, so I'm looking for an inexpensive way to get from the airport to Waikaiki & back---As it will be late I didn't necessiarily want to take the bus. I'll only have a small carry on, so luggage is not the problem. I thought there was a van service but don't see anything on the airport website. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the site which lists all available forms of ground transport at HNL:
http://www.hawaii.gov/dot/airports/o...ound_trans.htm
A taxi will charge you $25 or so, each way -- ask the Hyatt to give you the name of the company which offers a round-trip package (it's something like $25 total, and they'll take you door-to-door, by appointment only and prepaid). Sorry, but I can't remember the danged name!
Allow yourself _plenty_ of time to get to the airport for your flight to Lihu`e...plan to depart your hotel at _minimum_ 2 hours prior to the flight.
