Tour recommendations from Washington D.C.

Some friends as I are traveling to D.C. in September of this year. I want to visit Gettysburg, Mt Vernon and Monticello if possible. Any thoughts on tours that leave out of D.C. Also any thoughts on tours that you have taken around D.C. Thank You!

Why do you need a tour? Drive to each. Mt Vernon hosts its own tours. So does Monticello.

We went to Mt Vernon and it was fabulous. I think we took a Grey Line tour from Union Station. The downside was the tour didn't leave you enough time to enjoy all there was. If we do it again, I would go on our own using public transportation. Not sure how it all works but I believe you can take the metro to Old Town Alexandria, then a bus to Mt. Vernon. We also did a night time monument tour. Loved all of it.
