Totally confused about Vegas Hotels!
After reading many hundreds of reviews & listening to friends opinions, I still don't know where I will be staying in Las Vegas!
What I am looking for: Great Service & staff who will help you if you have never been to Vegas before, great rooms that are clean & not run down, centrally located as will not have a car, well priced restaurants with great tasting food & a little bit of luxury!
Too much to ask for?!
Please help with with any suggestions you may have. All are very much appreciated!!

Did you look at cheapovegas.com? They have some great funny reviews. They also have a FANTASTIC map so you can see where hotels are located.
I would still say the Venetian--however I got a great rate through Priceline. I don't know if I would have paid rack rate.
Maybe figure out what is the #1 thing you need in your hotel--be it room amenities, pool, restaurants, price and go from there.
That is the bugger about Vegas--almost too many choices!!!

You have to ask yourself what is most important..do you like mostly an older crowd, younger hip crowd, family type places? There are times when I am traveling and want to be totally pampered and other times I just want a clean room to crash in. I don't think just one place is going to give you all what you are looking for..the best part of being in vegas is going to all the different casinos/hotels and trying all the different foods etc. I haven't run into really informative staff...I don't really think that is their job esp in a huge hotel...I rely on places like this or by just talking with other people.
I have been to vegas twice and stayed at three different hotels...Golden Nugget downtown about 8yrs ago; Paris last January for a convention; Orleans also in January. I'm going again in two weeks with sis and husband and will be staying at the Flamingo since it was the only decently priced hotel on the strip at the time. It is important for them to stay on the strip since this is the first time they've been there.
Can't quite remember the GN;downtown has really changed since I have been there, but the GN was nice back then. I loved the Paris, while some people think it is a tacky reproduction, hey you are after all in Las Vegas. My room looked out to the Eiffel Tower and fountains of Bellagio, bathroom was large and luxurious. I loved the French pastries in the morning; the whole place was very small and intimate...not like the MGM or Mandalay where you can walk the place for hours. Staff ok; but I never really asked them for alot of info. There aren't any great bars here though...it's kind of laid back..in fact I don't ever think I gambled here the whole time I was here.
The Orleans is a great place for both price and atmosphere...rooms are a little too New Orleansy with ornate brass and floral wallpaper..very bordello looking or so I would imagine LOL. Anyway, I loved gambling there; had great margaritas in the bar next to the Mexican restaurant..excellent seafood chowder at Big Al's..very homey kind of place.
My best way of finding what to do and where to go is just to talk to whoever is around..at bars, casino etc. I have found many people love to talk about what they've done and where to go..of course, you have to take advice with a grain of salt; I once went to a restaurant someone just raved about and I could have had a better meal at Ponderosa.
There is another forum devoted to only LV at lasvegaswatch..you may be able to get more detailed info there on hotels etc.

Make things easier by deciding on your budget range.
No limit? Stay at Bellagio or Venetian.
If on a more restrictive budget you'll need to factor in dates and time of year as there are large variations in price from one week/month to the next sometimes.
Also, the best rates won't be offered up months in advance of arrival dates. Rates usually start to drop (if they're going to drop) within 4-10 weeks of target dates.

Thanks for the help so far.
We will be in Vegas in mid February 2004 for 3 nights. Looking at about $200 - $250 per night.
Not looking at gambling heaps. Going out to the Grand Canyon on 1 day. Would like to see 1 show. Mainly just chilling out for a few days before heading back to Australia!

I agree with others-But I still would recommend the Venetian. 1) Because it's centrally located. 2) Your around everything-They have good food great rooms-We had my in-laws 50th anniversary in a regular room (which are all suites) and the hotel staff was pefect, and polite. The hotel is REALLY nice and I've live here (all my life) and worked in the hospitality industry ever since ( long time ago) I was able to work. Las Vegas is a great city-Your not asking for too much-There's just alot to choose from-Good luck.

Hi aussie girl,
We are also Aussies and visited Las Vegas in january 2003.As our dollar was particularly pathetic at that stage we had to give Bellagio and The Venetian a miss especially as our itinerary took us into Las Vegas over a weekend when the rates go sky high.We were also paying for two rooms as we had our 3 kids with us.
We ended up staying at Paris and were really happy with the experience!The rooms are very nice and the French theme is fun and not too over the top.When we told the clerk at check-in that we had brought our daughter all the way from Australia to celebrate her birthday in Vegas(a slight embellishment of the truth)he gave us aroom on a high floor overlooking the spectacular Bellagio fountains so every hour or so we had an amazing floor show from our room-not that we were in it so much but it was fun!The clerk also gave us a gold card which meant we didn't have to queue for the buffet breakfast which by the way is one of the best we have experienced.We didn't think that was a big deal until we arrived at the buffet on the first morning to find a huge line of people waiting to be seated,while we flashed our card and breezed to the front of the line.
Paris also seemed well located on the Strip certainly within walking distance of most of the other hotels we wanted to visit.By the way we saw two shows and recommend them both-"O"which we booked from Australia before we left and Blue Man Group which we booked when we arrived.
Check out the Paris website they have specials listed there often.Enjoy!

For $200-250 per night (USD) in February you should be able to stay wherever you want to unless you're there when major convention business is ongoing.
I checked the convention schedule and it looks as though the worst dates in mid-February are: Feb 10-15, when over 100,000 convention-goers will be in town for 3 major meetings. That weekend will likely be very expensive. Book now if those are your dates.
Otherwise, get a room at Bellagio or Venetian. Four Seasons is nice enough but location is poor.

If you book now, you can easily stay in the Bellagio with a fountain view--for that price in February....
Also the Venetian is also an excellent choice as it has a HUGE shopping mall like Venice- inside the hotel...
If there is any money left after your room rate, and IF you are staying at the Bellagio, ask the concierge to get you a table at Le Cirque Restaurant..probably one of THE best dinners in my life with outstanding service and terrific decor!
