Tonight's Episodes of Airline were Great!

I thought tonight's episodes were some of the best, yet most disturbing ever. The guy with the mini skirt really freaked me out. He makes me want to put sanitizer on the airline seats when I travel. Anyone else see it?

I saw the show as well and agree - the mini skirted guy was too much! I fly SW so often and thank goodness have never expereinced any of the problems they have on the shows.

I'd love to know how they overbooked that one flight by more than 50 seats, though.

I thought it was great that they let the two penguins out to run around during the flight - how fun!

The guy in the tiger suit was freaky...I couldn't believe that Mom was letting her kids play with him and taking pictures like it was normal for a grown man to dress in a tiger suit for "no reason." Yikes. And the mini-skirt guy...oh, boy. Good episode!!

Bookhall,
Overbooking happens because the airlines can usually predict a certain number of no-shows. Based on past experience, you can usually and fairly accurately predict the no-show level on flights. The reason they do this is because it helps them maximize revenues. Empty seats do not make them money.

Once in awhile the people do actually show up. However, the cost to them when that happens is usually much less than the cost to them of not overbooking on every other flight.

While it is unlikely to be the cause of SWA, sometimes it happens on other airlines because a smaller plane is substituted for a larger plane due to a mechanical problem or delays.

BTW, I worked at airlines in college and overbooking situations weren't uncommon. You assume you need volunteers based on the number of reservations only to find that you have a few empty seats when the plane leaves.

In terms of last night's show, the drunk with the bowler hat and bad teeth is the nightmare of anyone who has ever dealt with the public.

Sorry I missed last nights episode, but was flying on SWA. I can understand the overbooking because last night an interesting event happened, which I'm sure isn't uncommon.

The plane that was supposed to take us from PHX to SMF then on to SEA was horribly late. They brought another plane in and had passengers they had to off load and reroute to another flight from PHX to San Diego. So what ever flight they had from PHX to SAN all of a sudden had more passengers. They said they had about 15, but seemed to handle it.

They were very intent on getting us to our destinations in a somewhat timely fashion. The first plane wouldn't have even landed until 7:40 pm, the plane they put at our gate pushed back about 7:30 (15 minutes late)

I thought that was good use of their equipment. Sorry I missed last nights episode, I'll try to catch later in the week.

SEW-Last night's episode was a rerun. It was the one with the 2 large male passengers they had to see if they fit in the seats and could put the armrest down, the overbooked flight to FLL and the people who had to make their cruise ship. The one ditzy lady who wouldn't board when they asked her too, she wanted to make a call to Carnival and they said she had to get on the plane now or miss her connection. They apparently held the plane for her and the others for an hour. The drunken guy going to his father's funeral who verbally abused the gate agent etc.

Only the 2nd show was a rerun.

The first show was bizarre--men in a mini skirt and a tiger outfit and penguins walking around the cabin.

I didn't get to see last night's episode, the only one I have missed. Aaargg!!! That mini skirt thing sounds like a scream. I can't wait to see the rerun on the second half of the hour.

I only caught the tail end of the first 1/2 hour so I didn't realize that was a new show. The guy in the tiger costume was weird! Can't believe the parents let the kid cozy up to him.
