Melnq8--Oh my, that would be weird to be stuck at the airport like that! Glad you made it home safely
Northwestmale--OMG, I am dying laughing at your words! SO true!!! LOL, the "good" part of Yakima. We used to live in that, but even that area has changed. My mom used to work in Selah. The mall, even in its heyday, was pretty dismal and then when Nordstrom across the street pulled out that was pretty much the end of anything there. The most redeeming thing about Yakima is the proximity for skiing/hiking. From our house, it was less than 45 minutes to White Pass, so we were spoiled!
Marvelousmouse--We always described it as the armpit as well
I have lived in Toppenish as well as Yakima, and just do not see the draw at all! Plus the crime rates are through the roof! Tri Cities is nice by comparison.

Some photos from our time in the Willamette Valley, not the light I'd have liked, but so it goes.

A melnq8 road trip! I've missed those. It was a fun read, as always.
Did anyone answer you about the slug? I believe it was a banana slug. I really really really do not miss slugs. I don't remember ever encountering a leech in Washington (I saved that delight for Australia) but I don't really know if they have them.
Sorry about all the rain. It's what it does.

Really enjoyed your report and photos! We stopped for lunch at Timberline Lodge the same day as you but ate in the dining room. The snow was gorgeous (we live in coastal CA so snow is a treat for us) but we didn't even get a glimpse of the mountain. We were on our way to Bend as part of the month long Glacier/PNW trip and loved the area around Bend as well. Taking notes on the parts of OR we missed for next time.

Hi Toucan2 - good to see you here and thanks for the info on the slug.
Our first and only encounter to date with leeches was in Tasmania, and as you know we hike quite a bit. When we saw that big yellow beast we both cringed and and were immediately reminded of the day I picked leeches off Bill after hiking near Mt Wellington
As for the rain - it messed up my photos more than anything. Lord knows we deal with rain every time we visit NZ (hoping to return in April).
Hi Patty -
Sorry we missed you
The dining room had closed by the time we arrived, so our only option was the bar. I hope you had better weather than we did on the rest of your trip.

I just now saw your question about our favorite wine at Ghost Hill - we left with some of their 2012 Pinot Noir Reserve, their 2013 Pinot Noir Blanc, and some of their Pinot Noir Rose - unusual for us, as we don't normally like Rose. We liked Monk's Gate's Pinot Noir Rose as well. Both were nice and dry and very unlike the many Roses we've tried in the past. Just another reason to keep an open mind when in wine country.
