My dear friend, sumreknot, could not get on to post this today (due to those lovable gremlins), and her trip is scheduled for a week at the end of September.

Soooo, I decided I'd start this thread for her so she could start getting some input from all you lovely Oregon Fodorites!

She and her DH, both retired, will be renting a car and seeing the area. What are some really neat, special things they can do while in the area? And yes, as with most of us, cost IS an object. ;-)

I know she will have some more specific questions when she is finally able to post again.

Has a hotel been chosen?
Portland or elsewhere in Oregon?
In seeing "the area", do they want it to be day trips from Portland or are they planning on staying in different places.
Budget, BGirl, budget! There are a gazillion hotels here, what do they want to spend a night?

They can arrange for the car rental from their hotel, so they won't need to drive into town, if that is where they plan to stay, we need more details...
