To folks who have been to Boothbay
I've seen some posts on Boothbay Harbor lately and wanted to add mine.
I'll be there next weekend and have secured our lodgings. However, we're also interested in going on a lighthouse cruise or something similar. Has anyone gone on one that they would recommend? We don't want to be gone all day, just a few hours.
We're staying at the Harborage Inn, too. Has anyone stayed there? Any restaurants to recommend?
Thanks!

In downtown Boothbay Harbor, all of the cruise companies have booths that tell you about their cruises. We have taken the Cap'. Fish's cruise several times. One is a lighthouse cruise, others are seal watches and combinations, etc. They are about 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. long. The narration is live each time. A good time always. Be aware that the temp. can plummet when you get out of the inner harbor closer to the open ocean so make sure that you bring a warm jacket. Enjoy.

We did one of the Captain Fish cruises this past July. It lasted about 90 minutes. There are several to choose from ,some last longer. And there are lobster traps everywhere.
When we were there, " The Bounty" was being taken out for a test cruise in the habor. It was the ship built for (and used in) both the Marlon Brando and the Mel Gibson version of the movie and it is being restored by its new owner... unfortunately, Mel was not aboard that day. *S*
Be sure to get lobster served right on the docks across the harbor from where the cruise boats are. The lobsters are steamed while you wait and you eat them at picnic tables... delicious!

The day trip to Monhegan Island is absolutely fabulous. It leaves out of the dock at Boothbay aboard the Balmy Days II (search for their site on the internet). I believe it is 45 minutes each way and you spend 4 hours on the islands exploring the sites.(very natural -no cars on the island, artist studios, a few restaurants and a few places to stay overnight if desired). It's breathtaking. We packed a Lobster lunch(take-out from the lobster pound) and ate it on the 165 foot cliff!. We also saw seals & a whale as we took a ride around the island for $2.00 additional(to see a different perspective of the island).I think you'll love it.
