short harbor trips in maine
We will land in Portland on Sat. Aug 13. We plan to go up to Acadia and then start our trip back down ending in Ogunquit about 10 days later. My family and I would like to go on a short harbor, river or sailing cruise but I easily get sea sick. Can anyone recommend a short, interesting trip somewhere on the coast?
Are any of the trolly tours in Portland worthwhile? Thanks

Hi. You can try Island Cruises (207 244 5785) from Bass Harbor, on the 'quietside' of Mount Desert Island and close to Acadia. There are a bunch more that go out of Manset and Northeast Harbor. *Most* small boats will not go out on rough days but you should ask anyway - it can be difficult avoiding ocean swells even when it is calm. The views of the Island from the water are spectacular.

Several years ago we had a fantastic day long boat cruise to see lighthouses. The cruise was with the Maritime Museum in Bath. It looks like they don't do any long cruises anymore but maybe the shorter cruises are just right for you. We also went by the Bath Iron Works which was fascinating. It's definitely a great idea to see the Maine coast from the water. Try the Sea-band elastic wrist band and take some dramamine. It doesn't look like any of these current cruises go out very far.

Well, if your last day is in Ogunquit try the Ugly Anne out of Perkins Cove for a Sea cruise. Make sure you can walk to the cove be cause they want a load of cash to park your car.Worst yet they wants 20 bucks to tie up your scow for 1/2 an hour at the dock.not enough time to ...
