Tipping at a B&B?

And how about for breakfast? I probably won't tip for afternoon refreshments since they'll probably jsut be out without service (I'm fine with that).
I've read a few older posts that say tipping for breakfast is not necessary since you are paying for it in the price you paid.
Any suggestions?

Definitely don't tip for breakfast. Interesting question about the rest of the stay. Often the owner of the B&B is doing the actual work so I wouldn't tip in that case. If the B&B is larger, and there is a reception desk and a few employees, those people generally multi-task and I don't believe the pay structure is the same as it is at a hotel.

Right - don't tip for breakfast or snacks. Do tip as in a good restaurant if dinner is served, either in your room or at check-out. Tipping for maid service is confusing because it's hard to always know if the host is cleaning {no tip neccesary} or hires someone to tidy the rooms. If in doubt, I leave a tip.

Tipping etiquette is a real pain and we would be better off with fixed prices servis compris.
As for your specific question I would say that you should tip if the service is good. Otherwise, it is a kind of pay cut to the shop owner. You can say that he/she is getting the full fare since they own the shop but they are also paying all the expenses too.

I wouldn't tip anybody who owned a place. That doesn't make any sense, whether it's a B&B or any other kind of establishment. They can set the rates to be whatever they want, so if they want more money, they can set the rate appropriately. I sure don't expect a tip from my boss for everything I turn in when we've agreed upon my salary. Of course they're paying the expenses, that's called owning a business.
By the way, "servis compris" is not a French term, it is "SERVICE compris" if that's what you meant.
