Cute story Nikki! You dind't mention the ladies of the night you passed. It was certainly a different era

Some of you will argue about a dead stick being dead and then use it to beat a dead horse. At least IMD laughs at the irony.

A room at the Marquis is looking arguably as a better value. Invite a few friends over, get takeout - does Olive Garden do takeout on NYE?

"If someone cannot live without paying a small fortune to see the ball drop and eat crappy food sobeit. But I don't understand why so many people take a warning as a personal affront."

Warning someone is fine, berating someone for doing what they want to is just being a jerk.

Inak.....

Nobody said it was anybody in particular.

"Thus to spend hundreds of dollars on dreck, is appalling."

"If someone cannot live without paying a small fortune to see the ball drop and eat crappy food sobeit."

If you think this type of language is acceptable then you and IMD deserve each other.

gmoney, so you're chastising someone for berating air and no one in particular?

"berating air" ???

LOL, no I'm chastising someone for berating people. Last I checked "air" doesn't choose to eat at Olive Garden.

"But I don't understand why so many people take a warning as a personal affront."

ROTFLMAO

OK, let's assume that someone here really was planning on going to one of those places you mentioned and was already planning on plunking down hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Do you honestly think they were doing so without knowing what Olive Garden or Ruby Tuesday is like? Yours was not a valuable warning -- any more than shouting "Beware if you pay $2000 for Super Bowl tickets you are a complete idiot as you can watch it for free on TV at home or enjoy it at some other venue". Some "warnings" are just silly -- and yours was one of them. But how nice that YOU find yourself the grand authority on what should be worth money to other people.

I agree about the warnings.

Just who are you warning, Warren?

Like any of us can't tell the difference between Olive Garden and Del Posto.

This not Lonely Planet. There are posters here who fly to Zürich for shopping and hole up at the Baur au Lac.

I think living on the LES has given you a very provincial attitude.

It has nothing to do with the LES but the way and the circumstances my wife and I were raised. It is a vulgar amount of money for food that is crap and an ephemeral moment.

In fact, we throw out very little food, still love to find value restaurant (which is becoming harder and harder), and I still shutter when I see bands destroy their equipment, knowing people could use that stuff.

I am addressing this to you, because the others could care less and are just interested in derailing the topic.

And this is the last I will write on this topic. Tomorrow we will be spending NYE with a friend I know since kindergarten and another who I know since college.

Or perhaps the others actually care more and just can't stand to see a pompous bully belittle other people!

Enjoy your NYE IMD, might I suggest a nice dinner at Red Lobster with your friends, I hear the cheddar bay biscuits are divine!

I was lucky to have been able to go to Times Square for the ball drop many years ago. It was in the 1960's and my mother-in-law loved Radio City Music Hall so my husband and I and my in-laws went to the late show there. At about 11:30 my husband I left and walked down to Times Square. We saw the ball drop and then went back to see the rest of the Radio City show.

Saying that, I would never go through the headaches and cost of doing it now.

BINGO!

the "this is the way I feel and anyone who doesn't feel the same is an idiot" syndrome is just SO old.

Wow, so there is an admitted "us"

Who systematically attacks certain posters. And jumps to speak for members of the "us"

Oh

And you have named me the Village Idiot who doesn't have a clue.

How kind to diminish me.

Happy Frickin New Year

"Wow, so there is an admitted "us""

Yes, I am not the only one on this thread.

"Who systematically attacks certain posters. And jumps to speak for members of the "us""

If calling someone out on their condescending words is attacking them then yes I am guilty.

"And you have named me the Village Idiot who doesn't have a clue."

You are the only one who has used the term "Village Idiot" but yes, you have introduced some terms that have baffled me.

"How kind to diminish me."

If you feel that I have tried to diminish you then I apologize.

Yes, I really do hope you have a Happy New Year.
